I had a crank sensor go out @6k miles, shift cap snap off, clothes hanger break, sun roof rail break, a hole in my carpet and satin trim on my doors are starting to peel... and I think that's it. The SS/SC is only an 06... Oh and both of my batteries just died on both my key fobs, but that I don't blame GM for...

So I'm a little hesitant on getting the 09 SS/TC, but the engine and trans have been solid, and over-all it's been a very reliable car... That and I got it brand new for 19k so I can't really complain too much.

Yeah, if you want a Scion, Tc's are ok if you don't want to go fast... but I know a lot of people that have Mazda 3's and are very happy with them, I also like their interiors a lot, but I like Mazdas...

But yeah, for me I'm trying to get a Solstice GXP, or a used 350Z if I can. But if either of those don't work out then I'm getting a fully loaded 09 Cobalt SS/TC...
oh and if you think Silver chips easily and shows dents, try having two black cars...
My mz3 is black. I think that the '06 cobalt have the worst quality overall. Everything had something to wrong, from tires to the roof paint coming off while drying the car.

nice car man. i was torn between your color and black when i bought mine. the only thing that made me decide was i think tinted windows on a black car look better, and i have to have my tint. but that color is still hot in my book.

later,

turb

Nice gtp. Was there any thing about that car that was not up to par or you did not like? I alway liked those a lot. The compG 05, I wish they made a 2 door compG. I drove some I liked the HUD on them.

The previous gen GTP's can be real quick. I've seen some with upgraded S/C's that could smoke modified Mustangs and Camaros...

The current gen GTP is a lot nicer. Definitely a nice daily driver... It basically came down to a GTP or the Cobalt SS/SC, back in 06 when I leased it.

I've seen a couple of the current gen GTP's modified with smaller pullies, and they look decently quick... Problem is they are heavy, and like ours FWD, but heavier FWD cars don't make for the best performing vehicles, they can be quick, but they are limited...

Since 06, I know they kinda played around with the GT/GTP name, I think the GT now has the 3800 S/C series motor or something? And obviously the GXP with the 5.3L V8, those are cool, I test drove one of those and it was fun... But the gas mileage isn't...

I have a 97 GTP with a 2.8 Pully, INTENSE ECU, CAI (Forgot brand).

I had ultra high performance all seasons from Bridgestone (Think it was KDWS model tires), 18 inches.

That car def put you back in your seat, but even then, it was a 4 door and stock the previous gen GTPs were still only 0-60 in 6.8-6.9. The stock cobalt SS/TC would wipe the floor with a stock GTP, any GENERATION. Even with a few bolt On.s like I had, the stock 08-09 SSs are going to be mean to beat.

I just seen a thread on here the other day in a different sub-forum where some dude with a Saturn sky redline (2.0 ecotech engine) just made 365 .W.H.P! I only viewd article for brief second, but it had dyno sheets.

Im excited to see who gets their SS into 11s on the track first. With street radials! NO SLICKS!

I know exactly who that guy is FiscalFizz, well not personally, but I'm on solsticeforum.com and yeah he's on there. I believe he got up to 365 WHP with bolt-ons and a turbo swap... Turbo swap kits for the Solstice/Sky start at around $1899 and can cost up to about $2400 depending on the turbo...

Once the aftermarket companies like Hahn, Synapse etc start offering turbo upgrades for the SS/TC it's over...

Problem with the LNF in the Cobalt vs the Solstice/Sky is that it's longitudely mounted in the Solstice/Sky for its RWD drive-train therefore the turbo is on the side of the engine, making it easy to get to the turbo and leaving room for a swap, but I'm sure the aftermarket companies can work that out... I think the worst that would come with it is not being able to put the biggest turbo on it. But heck all I'd need would be to have a GT3067GTR series on the SS/TC and I'd call it a day.

I had a 3.5" s/c pulley, fenderwell cai, a 3" downpipe w/ Magnaflow Highflow Catalytic Converter, 1.9 Ratio Roller Rockers w/ Ls6 "Yellow" valve springs, and it was tuned with a Digital Horsepower Powertuner...

of course I had supporting mods like an 180 degree thermostat, 104 autolite sparkplugs and some ZZP Gen II poly motor mounts...

the wheels were American Eagle 192s and the tips were Magnaflow 35123s...

best 1/8th mile was an 8.896 at 81.896mph(we don't have a 1/4 here)

things I didn't like about it:

1.) the transmissions are unreliable even with the mods I had, others had it let go on them, so I always had that in the back of my mind

2.) it was a quick car to 90mph, could even hang with LS1s until about 70, but after 90, it feel on its face some kind of terribly

3.) I just wanted something new, so I actually traded it on a blazer(was going to buy a cheaper car to "build") and then just decided to pull the trigger on a new cobalt instead... I don't street race anymore so I don't have the need for a fast car anymore, I'll mod this one slightly, nothing major, just to make it more fun to drive... its not worth the risk in racing anymore...

when I was 17 and had my Lt1 Z28, they'd just slap you on the wrist, tell you to leave the area, and not to come back(in which we'd be back the next weekend)... that was the end of it... Now its like $3000 in fines(more than a D.U.I.), car gets impounded for 30 days, you lose your license for 120 days, insurance automatically drops you, and its just not worth it...

our drag strips suck here(all ran down 1/8th mile tracks), so i'm content with just having a "quick" car with a good warranty, its why I got the SS...

yeah I'll still go out in the middle of no where and tie up in a race if someone wants to, but leave it at that... No more going out with the sole purpose of racing and to "organized" races like I have in the past, hell, I could have gone tonight I got a call that about 30 cars had showed up at our "spot" but i'm still gun shy... a kid with a '06 GT Mustang rolled his car out there a few weeks ago(another thing that scares me, idiots who can't control their cars side swiping yours) and the police have been kind of hot out there... I just have lost interest, I mean the way it always go is you develop a "rival"(usually someone faster than you) with the goal of getting your car fast enough to beat them, and then when you finally do, you find out they sold it a few weeks back...

plus you lose all kind of money on parts, I had like $75 in the pulley, $150 in the intake, $200 in the exhaust, $600 in the rockers and $100 in the valve springs, pushrods, and retainers, $400 in the tuner, $600 in the wheels and I ended up getting $20 for the pulley, $75 for the intake, left the exhaust on the car, $350 for the rockers and valve springs, etc., $250 for the tuner, and $400 for the wheels, and it was all like a year old(the rockers had about 4000 miles on them)... about half the money...
