pontiac GXP vs. Cobalt SS/TC--questions
where i live theres a dbag with a gxp. its funny this was mentioned. i have a k&n short ram, downpipe and gms1 and i beat him like nothing from a dig, and 2 pulls, the second pull i gave him a car and a half or so length and passed him like he was standing still. now hes driven past my work atleast twice that ive noticed prolly to scope my car, from what i think. this guy has a big gxp decal on each side and the same kinda rear bumper the new evos come with (dont know what theyre called) but after the first pull he had to try 2 more times.. i guess cause our cars are sleepers ahah

I dwell on both sides of the argument - I have the LNF, and I know full well the potential in the 5.3. I've seen modified 5.3's (LM7's - the truck motor variant - not even the LS4 in the GXP) that put out over 400hp to the wheels, with torque curves that never dropped below 360 through their entire rev range - just heads, cam and intake - and they carried full vacuum, and were docile as lambs.
I don't think this is nearly as much as an argument about power potential between the LNF and LS4 as it is comparing a heavy car saddled with fwd and soft suspension versus a lighter car with a better suspension, maybe even with an advantage of a softer initial hit thanks to the little displacement and initial lag.

Lol I've seen that place before and remember wondering wtf was going on. I'd show up but kids like the GXP driver who think they are hot **** really **** me off. I would have raced him and gotten pulled over, guaranteed.
When nick and willie race i wana be there. Lol ill be up there this wknd. And agreed nick our race was a scary moment. We got lucky. Did you go to sears after? I went home amd fell asleep. Lol im headed to har mar around 830 tonitgh to see some 50s cars then to sears. Anybody else?
lol no biggie.
yea, a buddy of mine in his ss/tc,he raced a honda lol and blew its doors off and low and behold a undercover was about a 1/4 mile behind him. i was stoned in the passenger seat and was freakin out. so from that point and the fact that i drive for a living so i kind of have to keep my record clear.
i have done runs before but just on the highway.

lol ****,just tell the cop your a kid at heart. atleast if you get a ticket your insurance company wont rake you over the coals vs. a 20-25 year old
Um, the LS4 is dimensionally different, and what is it - technically 2 ci different? - but I think you're missing the logic here. You can get a cam ground for the LS4. You can work the heads, and you can make mean power with the LS4 - every bit as you can make with the truck block. And if you're lazy, you can always turbo the shizzle and it'll accept at least a nominal 8 psi without a hiccup. The LS4 isn't some retarded step child here! They may be not very well supported as the rwd blocks aftermarket-wise, but you can't count them out as something other than a block with serious performance potential. Sorry.
Why would anyone say a 5.3L doesn't respond well to mods?? No offence but that's a pretty bold and stupid claim. A 5.3 with heads, cams, tb, headers, and a tune in a grand prix would smoke a stock turbo SS on a highway. That would net you at least 420-450whp. Now add some spray and your looking at 550whp for a couple grand. If it's a chevy V8 it can be made to go real fast, real cheap. If he was bone stock and you were bone stock he would still take you. The grand prix gxp does a 0-60 in about 5 flat with a good driver and they don't stop pulling. My cousin use to have one and it was quite the rocket on the highway.
