Poor man's mods?

Hello
I have been reading some of the forums and I am a little overwhelmed by the amount of information. That's a good thing, but it also means I am not sure about a couple of things. I may be getting an 08 or 09 Cobalt SS soon. I would like to modify it a bit, but I don't have the money or the know-how to go nuts with it. Biggest thing to me is inexpensively increasing HP and/or MPG without sacrificing one for the other. Sooooooo, in my research I came across a few things that I think I can handle;

-First; a new air intake system. What does everyone think of these;
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Chevy...4506.m20.l1116

-Second; new spark plugs. Any suggestions? How big of an increase in HP and/or MPG can I expect with decent plugs and wires?

-Third; Any other suggestions?

Thank you
Jeff

A SS/TC price wise, a new tune REALLY opens the car up. Trifeca will be your best bet since its the cheapest. Not the best tune but certienly not the worse. My buddys trifeca tune put down 276 306 where my HP tune put down 293 312.

well unless you get a tune you're not going to benefit from any bolt-ons due to the learn-down feature. Personally I am waiting for the Stage Kit from GM to come out so I can retain my warrenty for the most part. But if that's not a factor in your decision making I would get a tune (a lot of people have said good things about Trifecta, I personally wouldn't know) That's where you're going to see a lot of your hp gains.

Thanks for the info

I also just ran across these;
http://www.pulstar.com/

Too good to be true?

Wait... so getting a tune messes with your warranty?

If not that intake system, than which?

Sorry for this thread being in the wrong place.

Don't waste your money on plug's. If you want the cheapest hp per $ do a drop in filter & a tune.

Are cars do not have plug wires. The Hahnracecraft intake is a good one to get. A tune is what you need to start with first.

get a tune.. in some way.. it's the BEST bang for the buck.. as said by mkulrey trifecta is the cheapest and usually give great results they've shown anywhere from 270+ whp- 300 whp from just a tune and about 340 wtrq

as far as tune voiding your warranty it's possible HOWEVER vince at trifecta ahs developed what he likes to call " invisitune" lol gm tech 2 cannot see that the tune has been flashed or modified and it looks stock to them

as far as intake i'd go with clear image as well as their performance boost tubing and downpipe.. they make great stuff for a great price.

What will a tune do to the MPG?

How does everyone feel about buying a used intake system from, for example, the classifieds on this website?

*edit* Maybe its because I have woman parts (no offense to anyone who biologically does) but the tune scares me a bit. I am very worried about messing with the warranty of the car in case I have some weird problem but don't have the time to switch it back to factory settings before getting repaired. Even a "stealth" is a bit troubling. Did I hear someone mention a tune that doesn't mess with the warranty? If so, when does that become available.

www.turbotechracing.com , www.turbosystem.com , www.dejonpowerhouse.com , www.clearimageautomotive.com

These sites right here will provide you with all the mods you need and that are out. You can also access the tune from Clearimageautomotives website. Also, superchips has a tuner out for our cars aswell now.

That or maybe he should buy a used SS/SC or another car and spend what he would save on mods.

these cars will not gain a single HP unless tuned. due to the learn down feature on the "computer" for these cars. this learn down feature makes the car produce 260/260 no matter what mods are done until the comupter is tuned. some tunes will help your MPG. I suggest you do some research on the car on this site and any others before you purchase the car let alone before you think about modding the car.

Go steal a park bench from a local Park and bolt it on the trunk adds 50whp, and buying a muffler from Autozone for $75 adds 75whp. You know it's 1whp per dollar you spend, LOL.

LOL... I'm sitting here drunk laughing my ass off!! reminds me of this kid around here with a LS sedan with a unpainted urethane non functional hood w/ hood scoop shittily cut out and rear bumper and a huge alum wing and that bitch is on backwards so the air foil is facing the rear so it's creating lift instead of down force!

LOL, sounds about like most of the automatic Civics and Eclipses around here. There is actually a bone stock Cobalt LS around here with a high-rise spoiler. Everytime I see it I'm LOL!! But hey, whatever floats their boat.

Ahhh, Ok. That's what "learn down" means. I was confused when someone posted it above. Like I said, I am new to this process and I dont yet know the terminology.

An oil catch can.... will that increase my MPG/HP? How about racing stripes? They have "racing" in the name so they must make the car faster, right?

Thank you for the help everyone. I have a few more questions, but i will post them in the correct place.

Clear Image Auto CAI if you are going to buy an intake...but without a tune you are NOT going to gain anything.

Stock plugs only, and those pulstars are junk.

If you want someone to tune you, PM me and we will discuss it.
