Are Pre Production SS Turbo's BETTER?
OK.....First thing is first.......what months in 2008 were the pre productions made?
second.......where can I find out when my 08 was made?
But most important......does anyone think that the pre-production models were better made.......quality that is?
cause honestly.....I wanna know if my car was a pre production since I have ZERO issues with it that i constantly hear about over and over again on this forum.
maybe GM spent a little more time on these models since they were the brand new newborns and they really had to make them count so that they compete.
oh and I have one more thing on my mind........ya know the Cobalt SS Turbo's that tey use for testing in car and driver and road and track(plus other mags).........does anyone on this forum have these cars.........I figure that GM MUST have sold them off as a DEMO car after the tests
Lemme Know!

It says on the inside of your driver door when the car was made. I think as far as having issues goes, it comes down to luck, and how you drive the car. I'm also one of those people who has had no issues, and my car is not a pre production car. I highly doubt anybody on here is gonna know if their car was used for testing and such.
Also, I think you put way too much thought into these cars

If your VIN has an XX in it it is most likely a pilot run, mine was. They were made in Apr '08 (28th? I forget) but mine wasn't delivered to a dealer until late July.
http://www.compnine.com/vid.php and run your VIN.
No engine issues other than the camshaft cover & position sensor oil seep. Sunroof fit the roof profile like crap though.

I don't know anything about pre production or pilot runs. I don't over think it. It's just a car. As long as it runs I drive it. It's a great relationship.

I highly doubt GM would restructure their assembly line process just for a few hundred cars. It would be too costly to make sense. Every Cobalt is built in the same way. The only difference is what parts are installed the factory.
As for having a 0 issue car, its a complete luck of the draw.

There were 132 pilot vehicles made, mine was on 4-21-08.
WD1 IDENTIFICATION - PILOT VEHICLE 132
I suspect they had two runs a week apart unless someone has a pilot with a different build date.
They sat at Lordstown OH afaik until mid-late July and were shipped to dealers. My dealer got 4 in the shipment with mine.

There are 2 2008 COBALT LEVEL 4 PERF (SS) 2 DR vehicles (0.119%) matching your exact options list. There are 3 (0.179%) with at least as many options.

However, I am willing to bet that it is probably only 1 of about 20 with my options and color considering that they only made 454 SS/TC Sedans and only 41 of them were white.

It's not the plant thing that gets us on the SS Cobalts because they're all made in the Lordstown plant. The reason you can make a car appear rare is because the "production week" is a code on the RPO sticker. So my car was the only white SS/TC sedan made with my options in that production run period.

I got my 2008 early on.... I think the end of May 2008. The only issues Ive had were the rear brake issue, which I finally resolved with aftermarket pads/rotors, and the leaking oil from the cam position sensor. Oh yeah and my driver's door striker keeps going bad and rattling over bumps...strange. Overall great car and reliable so far!
