quick stupid question

I'm gonna order an aftermarket muffler for my car, do I need one with a 2.5" inlet or a 3" inlet? If I need 2.5" will one with a 3" inlet fit anyway?

it is 2.5".. not 3".. but you can make it work with a 3" inlet by simply using a 2.5" - 3" adaptor

Do you think an exhaust shop would have one?

They should, but surprisingly some exhaust shops (Midas, Meineke) don't carry anything over 2.5". They should be able to just flare the pipe out to 3" for you in order to mate it up. I'm sure they could figure something out for you..

2.5" would be the proper one to get. Sure you can make the 3" work, but why go through the extra effort when 2.5" is the right size?

Why not just go with a muffler delete? YouTube - Muffler Delete

They sound rather good. Or are you just going for the annoying ricer fart can sound? Specially if you're just doing a muffler. Or are you going to try to do the full exaust?

I've already got a muffler delete. I'm gonna get a catless downpipe too, but I don't want it to be that loud. I need something to quiet it down. If I don't like the muffler I'm getting I'll try a different one. I'm not getting a cheap autozone can. I'm getting a Borla muffler. If I don't like it I'll probably just get the MPx exhaust, but I thought I'd try a cheaper solution first.

He's talking about a muffler inlet not a full exhaust...
