Recalls

Attention all 2008 SS/TC owners...

I'd give your local dealer a call later this week to have them check on recalls on our cars. Call the service department and have them run your VIN to see if there is anything out there that needs to be looked at.

I had mine in on Saturday for an issue with the oil drain plug. I guess the threads might not be the right size and can cause an oil leak after the first oil change (something like that). Anyway, they will take a look at it and fix it if necessary. They will also give you a free oil change since they have to drain the oil to look at the issue. Mine did not need to be repaired, but I'm glad I had it looked at and got a free oil change!

Secondly, my Dad (who is a Fleet Service Executive for GM) got an e-mail today about the front rotors on certain SS/TCs. My VIN falls in the range of applicable cars, but the recall won't be loaded into the system until tomorrow to see if I'm eligible for new rotors. The service bulletin does not state what the issue is...just says they are not up to GM's standards.

I'll let you guys know if it shows up for my car...in the mean time...prepare to call your dealer after tomorrow to see if you need anything looked at!

do you know the dates for the cars that might need to be serviced?

My T/C was on hold for about a month transferring from Ohio back to Michigan and then came to PA.

Will mine be okay, is it just the first batch of balts or is it all of them?

Thanks a lot for the heads up !

I don't recall what the range of VIN numbers was. I'll take a look through my old e-mails and see if I can find it.

I received a notice in the mail a few weeks back...if you didn't get one...you should be safe...

Mine was built on 4/29, so it was one of the first ones....

Hopefully mine falls into the rotor recall category... been having all sorts of warping issues with mine. Was about ready to order some slotted ones...

My Dad was planning on checking mine today to see if my car was included. I haven't heard anything yet...

Looks like mine is eligible for new rotors...I'm going to schedule a service appointment...

I called to make a service appointment to have my rotors replaced and they informed me that the service bulletin was listed for my VIN, but did not have the description loaded yet. The bulletin number is 08242.

I'd just call your dealer, give them your VIN (they will look it up in the system) and tell them you want to make an appointment for service bulletin 08242. They may not have the info yet, but tell them it is for a front brake rotor replacement.

I believe I had my build date from some information my Dad pulled. I don't know how to determine this without getting it from a dealer or someone else who has access to the information.

The bulletin says VINs with the last 8 digits in the range of 87229258-87338792 should check for eligibility. If you VIN is in that range, I'd definitely call to have them run your VIN.

So is this the warped rotor problem that I have then? Because I don't think the oil problem applies to me.
