In fact, the Cobalt SS set a lap record for front-drive sport-compact cars at the "'Ring," posting a time of 8:22.85 minutes – besting the previous record by more than 13 seconds.

Quoted off of autoblog. So at least 13 secs slower for ss/sc

I think you'll still be able to get the high rise spoiler like before. I can't believe how well this thing is reported to handle! It's insane.

Maybe it was a better driver though.

Apparently not, that's a killer time. Hats off to the engineers at GM who pulled it off.

I am not sure I can believe that. There are simple rules there that don't make sense. If it really did a 8:22, then those times listed above must not have had an egual caliber driver. There is no way that a Cobalt should be that much faster than some of those, like the late model M3 and the STI. It just doesn't sound like a fair compairson. If GM pulled off the 8:22 during repeated testing and tuning, lap after lap, and the magazine did it with just one shot, its not a level playing field. I'm thinking the tests by "sport auto" are not the best example.

What did GM quote the current SS at if they did?

The times on that list include a range of heavily modded cars and "world averages" for stock model cars. Do a little research on some of the cars in that list and you will see that those times are very accurate.

Not to mention, multiple sources have stated that the SS/TC's time was faster then the previous record for a stock car in it's class by over 13 seconds.

John Heinricy is a big part of that. He is one hell of a driver. I believe that is the reason the "Time Attack" Cobalt beat an 800hp Skyline GT-R as well.

Its class is FWD 4 cyls, and none of those other cars are in its class. I don't care if it can beat an SRT-4, I believe that, especially stock for stock. I still question the evenness of the drivers if its beating an STI or M3 or SLK55 AMG. Those are much more powerful, well tuned, good handling cars. I would like to see a side-by-side, thats all. To me, its like comparing dyno's, there are too many variables when you have that much time, years in some cases, between tests.

I'd put the 350 probably 15-20 seconds faster than the G35, if I had to guess, I'd say 8:35-8:45 depending on the model of Z, and 9:00 or slower for the G35.
