RPD Question
so this one goes out to any of the guys who have an rpd,
i dont know about you guys, but when the autodim kicks in in these car the rpd screen can get so dark somtimes its almost impossible to read! even on the brightest setting.
ive tryed messing around with it a few times, with no luck, is there like a setting or a way to bypas the autodim on the rpd and not have it dim down when it gets dark out? like id rather it be brite all the time then thaving it barly readable...
any suggestions? tips?
thanks

That's one of the reasons why I got this car lol. Why do you hate it? It's a very good tool when needed to check if your car is doing OK at the moment...
x2 do hate the dimmer. I just leave my lights off during the day, usually ride with fogs.

Crazy canucks... Even with my limo tint on all the windows it is too dark with the auto dim going on, plus dark tint makes it worse cuz it comes on sometimes when I have parked in the shade cuz the sensor thinks its night time lol. I hate how the car does that. I know when I want to turn my headlights on.
...long story short, there is no dimmer wire going to the RPD, and dimming is controlled via the GMLAN.
You'd need to either:
-Spoof a signal over the GMLAN to switch the car to daytime lighting
-Spoof the light sensor using light
-Remove the light sensor and emulate the proper readings to the BCM as if it was there
-Do some magic with a Tech2
-Reflash the RPD
-Go with an analog boost gauge or other gauge option.
For instance, in the analog boost gauge cars, their harness going to their gauge looks like this:

...and it's got a dimmer wire, but the RPD doesn't.

Yeah, I seem to remember somebody sticking an LED near/on the light sensor, and there was another person that used a resistor if I remember right to spoof the signal from the light sensor to the BCM.
oh an i like how it censors out **** whenever someone types analog
Just saw this thread;
maybe because my name was brought up here, I was contacted yesterday via PM.
PM has been answered, and pending a little effort on the OP's part - a fix should be on short order.
this was the first thing I did to my car;
I hate the Canadian BCM flash in relation to the autolights ALWAYS on
I have a toggle switch that uses a resistor to fool the light sensor into thinking it's bright out... and normally said switch is turned on.

this is all about he autolights - as mentioned earlier state-side cars have a different flash to the BCM(?) - which allows the autolights to be turned on & off ~ while Canadian cars cannot turn off autolights unless parked with the e-brake on.

you don't like being able to have your instant mileage on your DIC - while having temps to read?
I still think that as far as factory options go - it's probably one of the coolest gadgets factory installed in cars to date.
there are probably a handful of people here who would trade you in a heartbeat for their analog gauge setup...
as it was the root cause of many customer complaints, and LOTS of warranty work - so oil pressure gauges were all together eliminated.
But I still agree with you - I will eventually be adding one myself.
