rpm problem

When i try and rip my 09 ss/tc which has 2900 miles on it...and when i shift into 2nd gear it goes all the way back down to 3500 rpms no matter how good a shift. I feel like it shouldnt go back down that far. It should jus go back down to about 4500 rpm minimum. Is that a problem with my car or does it just do that...and can i use the no lift shift with an 09 ss/tc?

Sounds about right, these cars have a large spread between the 1st and 2nd gear ratios. The longer final drive in the LNF trans makes it more obvious.

I'll "rip" mine in the morning and let you know. You can use NLS, but it's kinda tough from 1st to 2nd.

Not to mention the one time I did try it, my tires were converted to smoke for much of 2nd

I ran it up to 6K RPM and NLS shifted. Tach dropped to around 4.3K. I'm only two miles from work, so I only got one try.

I shifted at 5800RPM today and it dropped to approx 3.5K. This was a normal shift. No NLS. I'd say you don't have an issue. The tachometers on these cars are kinda jumpy.

hmm. sometimes mine puts me in the seat pretty good and sometimes it feels like my old car... my 0-60s aren't anywhere near 5.5... they are more like 9 lol... i'm not wheel spinning on take off but am flooring it thru first and second and shifting at 6k in first, my tires chirp in second but it's still doesn't feel like a 6 second 0-60. Anyone know how much of a difference the NLS makes in a 0-60

im not really sure i'm NLSin from first to second cuz im worried about torque steer on these unlevel roads lol.

Butt-dynos are historically inaccurate.

I have tons of experience with cars that are right around the 0-60 times of our SS/TCs

I had a 97 Trans-Am which was rated at I believe 5.5 sec 0-60

I get to drive a 04 BMW Z4 Roadster, which is rated ... honestly, I believe 5.5 sec

they were/are both autotragic transmission however.

I am not nearly good enough at shifting to get the 5.5sec 0-60 on the balt SS. But honestly... the cobalt feels faster than both of those cars, even with me shifting .

dude, our 2nd gear pull is godly. from a 40mph roll in 2nd gear... you should really take off on a lot of cars.

How anyone can NLS from 1st into 2nd amazes me

I can hardly launch the car well and keep the tires from smoking in 1st gear. I am almost afraid to go WOT once I hook up because 1st gear is just so small and goes so fast.

NLSing from 1st to 2nd gear is a good way to drop your tranny out.

maybe my sense of speed is just warped. i grew up around fast cars, so naturally i had to get one i could have fun in... and that i wouldn't kill myself in

i'm a very good driver just not in a straight line

I'm also not used to front wheel drive... guh. it's a huge difference coming from rear wheel drive monster engines to my lil torquey feeling cobalt.. I'm used to my car being fast with me granny shifting not snatchin that shifter through gears. i like to fly through traffic casually not all aggressive like, which is how i feel when i gotta shift a little faster... i guess after some bolt-ons and a tune it'll be closer to 5.5 with me granny shifting lol! (if i can keep the tires from spinnin)

yea first gear should be good to 45 or sumthin not 30 or 35... with a rev limit pushed to 7k what would that give you? about a 40 in first?

my car only has like 800 miles on it.. just got it a week ago from today...
prolly not gonna do anything to it until it gets to around 3k... prolly christmas time.
