Sedan Vs Coupe?

I look for a car with a lot of power. But with all that power, you need to be able to control it. I have had 2 cars with horrible handling. I have had a supercharged mustang gt, with over 500hp, on every turn, the rear end would slide out. I also have a German Engineered Mercedes S500, it handles very good, but, it does weigh 6000 pounds, and is over 17ft long, and has an extremely long wheel base. when i take sharp turns at 80+ mph, i have fishtailed before...

Now i have a problem. I am trying to buy a Cobalt SS, I can not find any coupes around my price range, and i think i have found a sedan in my price range. I am looking to take it to the track every once in a while, drag and road course, and i am hoping it will be able to handle just as good as the coupe?

Any ideas? As far as handling on sharp turns at higher speeds, how does the Sedan compare to the Coupe?

First of all welcome
Second not to be a dick but learn throttle control
Third these are fwd cars unless you set them up for oversteer the tail will typically not kick out
Forth how do you go from a mercedes to a cobalt?

I dont think there is much of a diff from a turbo coupe to turbo sedan handling wise.

Odd that you could find a sedan in your range but not a coupe, given how many more coupes there are than sedans.

Unless said weight difference is negligible, which it basically is on these cars. Somebody posted something here proving the sedan handled better. Can't remember if it was confirmed to be true or not because frankly I don't care. But it's basically a wash.

At 3,001 lbs, the LNF sedan weighs 26 lbs more than the coupe.

i have no "proof" but for a long time now, its been said repeatedly that the weight difference between the coupe and sedan is 50lbs or less and that the sedan(with those extra 50lbs) is actually a little bit more balanced because that weight is clower to the rear of the car

So the question is.... does that SLIGHTLY different distribution translate to anything tangible, and the answer is what? Put identical amount of fuel in a coupe and sedan, put robots in the driver's seat that drive the cars the exact same way, and send the cars around a road track. How many tenths quicker will the sedan be?

God forbid anybody buys a sedan for the sole reason that it handles better.... that's taking on a whole lot of ugly for NOTHING.

I went from a 05 997 to a SS Sedan. Some of the guy's in my club are still questioning this but I couldn't use the Porsche for work as it only has two doors and it's hard to sell to people if they think your making big bucks. The SS is a blast to drive if you turn the radio up so you can't hear the rattles. There is nothing better than kicking on "superior" cars at autocrosses and track days. I look at this car as a modern day Datsun 510.

I have both, the sedan feels more rigid for some odd reason. Its seems to be easier to launch too in some cases. The four doors are much more practical, and the visibility is 200% better in the car. And in my opinion both cars look okay, neither is uglier than the other. The coupe does seem to scream domestic ricer alot louder than the sedan, and with its high rise, it looks like it is trying just a bit too hard.

My coupes got the lowrise. Much better than the highrise.

However I do think the sedan turbo models are more understated and more of a sleeper

The sedan weights about 100 lbs more than the coupe. Not really a lot.

I had a coupe for two weeks. Thought I was in love, had to give it back.

Fast forward three months, and I got a sedan. Now I know what love is.

Sedan looks better, more understated, more sleeper, and will garner more double-takes and start more conversations.

Oh, and they're rare as hell. 1 of less than 500, 1 of 63 in this color, and that's not even close to the rarest of them.

Very close in weight and should be nearly identical in handling as GM didn't have to return the suspension for any differences (since there really aren't any) between the two cars. If you're buying one, coupe or sedan, and value having a fun and well balanced car keep it stock and enjoy. You'll be rewarded with great gas mileage and excellent handling. While it's tempting to modify the car for more power which is easily a re-flash of the computer away, you'll give up some of the ability to thrash the car and get decent mileage and the extra power upsets chassis balance, increased torque steer, etc.
