Shift Points

Hey Guys...

I just picked up my 08' yesterday and I have been driving around to break her in all day... Shift points, can anyone tell me the best shift points for all the gears? I know I should get out ther and actually get a feal for it but too many people want me to go to the track already in a day or two. Help me out?

Stick it on the dyno and see where it stops making power, you can also let us how your car stacks up =D

That's how I use to think also. If you go get your car dyno'ed you'll see where your car makes peak power, and then it starts dropping off. There's no point in going past the point where your car will be fastest, so you shift to the next gear.

Thats true, unless when you shift, if it drops the power down to less than what the drop off it.
IE - EXAMPLE
At 4000 you make 100 HP,
At 4500 you make 150 HP
At 5000 you make 200 HP,
If at 5500 you make 175 HP all the way to redline, it will still hurt you to shift if your RPMs drop down to that 4500 point.
Take a look at the dyno, generally, it is usually good to go to redline with most cars, They will make peak somewhere before, but not have as significant of a drop off as the incline was.

I don't know about the SS/TC, I think it maintains power up to the redline. I know the SS/SC makes power all the way to redline.

Are you still able to use the No-Lift shift feature not at redline? Just curious...

dont knw,but i think no,as its ecu controlled and the ecu knows at what rpm it has to be "no-lift shifted"at for it to work

ive got 2200 miles on my t/c. the shift points are way before the redline. i prefer competition mode and shifting id say at least 300rpm before redline. when using the no lift shift you dont want to hear a ton of popping from the direct ignition. maybe a pop or at most 2 pops. you can also feel the difference if you redline it and shift its laggy. if you dont redline it its more of like a sling shot. hard to explain but easy to feel!

!!!!! ^^^^^^

he explained it the best! I KNOW EACTLY WHAT UR TALKING ABOUT!

my homeboy has a gsr integra and when i redline it and shift, the car just goes faster, but if i shift at 5k instead of 65k (redline) i give the engine gas and i let go of the clutch and i feel the car pull forward.

nice way to put it madlion

Its not just HP, you also want to take torque into account, they both drop off fairly sharply after 5.5krpm

i came from a 2000 honda civic si. you really want to avoid shifting that car after 7600. the power band drops off soooo much. the goal is to stay in the rpm range with the highest amount of horsepower and torque. if you look at isitfast? graph the best place to stay is inbetween 5000-5600 rpm. if you look at the chart you are at the same power at 4400 as at 6100. obviously at 4400 you have more power. so if my chart looked like his id prolly shift 300-500 before redline to maintain a good power band. also guages are off so you have to feel out the car and listen rather then look at the rpm

are you talking about the ss/tc? it doesnt seem right though. ss/sc get good hp on redline shift.

i shift first gear at 5500ish k. it comes quick and if you no lift it 5500ish k is gold.

it will barely redline you might get a single pop. its a good point to start from. if you dont believe me try it!

in first gear traction plays a role. you may be able to shift higher and still stay in the power band but if you have no traction you will be slower. tire psi will be a factor. also the road condition. 5500-5800 range is pretty good area to start the 1st gear shift.

i personally prefer around 5500-5600. tachs are always slightly off so its impossible without a digital display to tell if i am at that rpm or not

no lift shift is always on
