So the competition is kicking it up a notch
Well the Koreans apparently are seeing GMs bet with the cobalt ss TC and Mazda's Mazdaspeed 3 and raising the bar in the HP race a little bit.

The new Tibby aka the Genesis is coming up with a base 207 hp turbocharged engine and an option 3.8 litre 306hp v6.
So are the cobalt's days numbered or will GM fire back with the CRUZE and hope they don't reach too far deep into their stack (with all the troubles GM has been having lately)

no worries
I am just wondering if Hyundai's target market would be the cobalt ss's target market or would they aim higher with this like maybe 350z territory.
If it is around the cobalt ss market then suffice it to say a 306hp rwd coupe is going to be hard to beat.

FYI, the genesis coupe 4cyl turbo has the same motor that the evo x has, just smaller turbo and detuned. Turbo swap it to the evo x turbo, slicks, flash a new tune in, MBC set to 25psi, and run low 12's all day long.
And the turbo 4 genesis is supposed to be in the teens for price and they are planning on coming out with a lightweight track model offered with only the turbo 4 motor.
Just another piece of info, the evo x motor, genesis motor, and new calber srt-4 motor are all the same, just the mopar engine is stroked. It's a new world engine that chrysler/mitsu/hyundai all got together and built. Before long, people will start to realize it and start stroking the evo x's and genesis coupe's and making TONS of power on big turbos.
It's call revolution. GM should try it.

i thought the genesis was more geared towards running agaisnt the bmw 5 series. Its a v8 model luxury car isnt it? 4 cyl isnt obvisouly a competitor towards bmw though.

I know it sucks but you have to realize there will always be something faster and better. If I could change two things about the TC, I would one make it real wheel drive and have an additonal overdrive for less rpms on the hwy. Both of these changes are not feasible on the Cobalt platform for many reason. (cost, cost, packaging, weight, performance, mileage, and cost to name a few.)
I will be sad when the cruze has a SS model and has more power than the TC.
I bought my TC for a FUN every day driver and that is what it is. $1.00 for $1.00 I think it is best car you can buy.
Civic SI is cheaper but is slower, but the it still gets worse gas mileage.
This Gensis or whatever is rated at more power but it will be more expensive, heavier and will likely get worse gas mileage. Beside it is a Hyundia....IMO I don't think of kool when I think of a Kia or Hyundia. I could go more in depth about my opnion but I wil keep my negative comments to myself.

Not to mention it is already lower than a lot of the competition (see the Road and Track test vs. MS3, Evo, and WRX). You can't just slap another gear on the top and assume that is going to increase your fuel mileage. I can't imagine GM would gear this car in a way that was not optimal for highway driving...
