SS|TC...in the snow?

i have a 09 SS|TC and am going to hopefully pick up a winter beater. but for those of you who drive your TC's in the snow and i know that snow tires are a must but how does it drive in and through the snow? unless minnesota has a winter like last winter ill be SOL and any suggestions on winter tires.

just kinda curious. i really dont want to drive my car this winter but i may not have an option at this point.

thanks

ss/tc + snow tires = TANK! The first winter I had mine was the worst winter I've ever seen and I tanked it no problem. I saw 4wd suvs sliding off the roads while I drove right by, LOLing the whole way past.

ive been looking for redline wheels and SS/NA wheels but everyone wants an arm+leg+happy ending for them. . atleast i have a garage to park in every night. but it just worries me about driving a turbo'd car in the snow lol

ill def have to get some snow tires if this winter beater falls through.

how much do snow tires run for SS/TC rims?

As long as you have LSD, and some sort of tire worthy in the snow, you'll get into plenty of trouble with it

Heh.. it snowed in Austin in February of this year. Sure it wasn't much but it was enough to completely cover the roads.

I managed it on the stock contis. Just take it really easy on the throttle. Boost is pointless.

When you feel your car on the snow for the first time with the winter tires it will be an absolute thrill.

My LNF handled winter like a champ on a set of Blizzaks. Never once even begin to lose control, and this is through a Michigan winter with 2 trips to the U.P. where the roads are not salted due to the cold, they just put dirt ontop of the ice.

DO NOT USE ALL-SEASONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No matter what anyone tells you, they are NOT as good or even comparable to dedicated snow tires when it comes to snowy/icy roads.

I haven't tried them for the 'balt, but if you're looking for rims/tires, I have had nothing but positive results from The Tire Rack. They have stocker-style rims, or you can scope out a decent cheap set of aftermarkets, then stuff some snow tires on 'em.

you can fit SS/NA rims and redline rims on the brembos?

i had no problem on worn stock continentals through the east coast "blizzard" this past winter.

manuals are amazing in snow, push the clutch in and you instantly cut power to the wheels and regain control.

discount tire direct, i got 17 inch drag-33? i think rims and some hankook snows, drove through the blizzard that dumped on WV 2 years ago, BMWs with AWD were in the ditch i was blowing by them, the low traction light and the ESP active were taking turns going back and forth on the dash, but not once did i feel like i was in danger, maintained the speed limit no prob.

ive heard alot of good things about the blizzaks and obviously a lot of the guys here back them too but ive had nothing but great results with firestone winter force tire. figured another option would be nice, but hopefully you can find a beater i know what you mean about driving your nice car and know its getting eaten alive by salt! i live in buffalo NY and i def. plan on storing mine!

Can't remember what tires I have on my SS/TC but I know it handled great for me this last winter. We got snow dumped on us in Germany but so long as you get winter tires and dont drive like an idiot, you'll be good.

Im not sure in anyone remembers last years winter storm in Chicago where they had so much snow people where trapped on lake shore drive. Well I drove home and to work just fine. I missed one day last winter where I couldnt go anywhere and that was since they plowed me and I was to lazy to dig myself out. That was on stock contis with 5/32s. Just remember winter tires help you move better but its not a reason to go playing and get in an accident.

I have 17" FAST Salsa rims and Hankook Winter iPike W409 tires (205/50/17). Great combo for the SS/TC. Keep TC and ESC "on" = no problem in winter.
I find the stock Conti's are only good to around +8 or +7 degrees C. So I change into my winters by mid November.

I put SS/NA's on mine in the winter with some blizzak's and it was a tank. No wheel spacers needed and I even got them with the tire pressure monitors in the wheels so there was no annoying light on the dash constantly! I left the traction and esc all on and it was pretty damn good in the snow!

I drove cross country last year and ended up hitting a freak storm in Kansas that covered the entire length of I-70 or I-80, whichever one goes through Kansas. I had no problems whatsoever on my new spring tires. I can only imagine how nice it would be in snow tires. Just don't drive like an idiot and take your time.

Leave the traction control off if you hope to get moving in the snow.
