TC sounds like WRX?

So, just curious...anyone notice that the exhaust (stock) on the TC sounds a bit like the WRX (in terms of a puttery exhaust noise)? Or is my car just acting up. I'm not getting and CEL or loss of power, but I just noticed it has a sound reminiscent of the WRX...

I've owned a WRX, and now have an HHR SS. Both cars do have a nice low rumble to them, and only rise in pitch just a bit towards redline, very much unlike most 4-cylinder engines. The WRX boxer engine has a nice off-beat pattern to the exhaust pulses that the SS can't match, though, but the SS has a nice mechanical whining sound at high revs which I think sounds pretty racy. The biggest difference in sound was the lack of rattles in the WRX, although the SS is quicker and more fun to drive

WRXs sound like poo. The Cobalt SS has a bit of a putter, but it's nothing like the nasty WRX lawn-mower-with-a-missing-muffler sound.

Have you not heard a WRX STi? Those motors are complete sex!

You're the first person I have seen to say they sound like crap....

That sound owns the SS. BTW, this red SS/SC is my car.

Put an equal length header on a WRX and it will sound like pretty much any other 4 cylinder. The unequal length of the stock exhaust is what give it the distinct note.

ehhh thats only part of it... its mostly because the boxer engine in which the pistons move side to side instead of up and down

SS = Inline 4
WRX = Opposed 4 (AKA Boxer)

Not sure if you guys go to many racetracks but the WRX's actually sound a lot like older porsche's. (Also boxers)
I love the sound of the SS turbo's but they'll never have the raspy, irregular sound of the WRX's. Not that I like the WRX sound more. It's actually more of a droning sound than the SS. To me, the SS's sound more like a 70's era SUPERBIKE. Gotta luv the sound of an inline 4.

Well WRX was the best comparison I could think of off the top of my head. It just seemed funny that while most 4 cylinder cars have a straight, even exhaust note, I noticed mine sounds like it has short little gaps in the sound of the exhaust, evenly spaced, which was reminiscent of a WRX. You could even say it sounds like a Nissan 3.5L above 3500 or 4000 I believe...that vibration type sound...or like chewbacca in my engine? lol

get the down pipe and you will hear the blurbles better but it wont be close to the wrx. It still is a neat sound though. backfires like crazy lol. get some cams and you may sound closer to a wrx.

Any turbo car will have a bit of exhaust flutter. I dont think the SS sounds like a boxer in the slightest, however they both sound like turbo cars
