Is there a way I can turn off my DTRL

DTRL = Day Time Running Lights, but I guess it should be considered Always on running lights

I was curious if I can automatically turn off the Auto Lights or make it so its like the SS/SC where only the side lights turn on and when its dark my headlights turn on.

or better yet

My lights stay off until it's dark then my lights turn on when its dark.

I think the current way it does things is lame. When it's dark my gauges light up but my lights are always on.

Thus bringing up another question people with HIDs does this cause your lights to fail faster always having them on?

yup, go into the underhood fuse box and pull the "DRL" fuse. No more DRLs and your Autolights still work normal.

Is this even safe

and when you say "auto lights still work as normal" you mean the lights turn on at night and stay off at night.

If this is true and its safe, you solved my dilemma

yeah if you pull the DRL fuse in the sunlight you get no lights at all not even the sidemarkers but the autolights are still in tack so when it gets darker outside the lights will automatically turn on

and i think it may be a way to turn off the lighted entry but i like the feature so i wouldn't change it

Yes.

With the key in the run position with the car either running or not and not moving:
Push and hold down the bottom two buttons (The Info and Return buttons below the Cruise Control buttons) at the same time for a few seconds. Then let go of them. Then on the DIC, you'll see language options, lights when unlocking options, etc. Use Info to scroll and the Return button to change.

Yes.

During the day, the headlights (side markers on 05-06 ones) will remain off during the day. They will still turn on at night. The DRL fuse simple disables them coming on during the day too.

Personally, I'd love to have full control of my headlights back and operate them myself.

just an FYI, an insurance company dropped a guy for having the DRL fuse pulled. The accident ocured at dusk and wasnt that serious, but the company said he increased risk without informing them and dropped him.

thats stupid. DRL is not a law that cars should come with them. Anyways the DRL fuse is in the side fuse panel by the passenger seat.

Take the cover off the underhood fuse box. Look on the under side of the cover it should be marked "DRL"

Let me guess, you have an 05-06 right? If so, you don't have a fuse since your parking lights are your running lights instead of the low beam bulb.

^^ nope there isnt. on the 05-06 the DRLs are powered through a circuit printed to the fuse panel, there is no disabling them. on the 07 and up simply pull the fuse.

I always just turn the headlight switch backwards and that turns the DRL off till u turn the car off ..... you have to remember to do it everytime you start the car but it's no biggie and becomes a habit. It worked the same way on my 06 SS/SC . It takes 1 second to do and leaves the DRL fuse in place in case there is ever an accident and they look for it .

The only problem is it turns the auto lights off as well........ so you actually have to turn your lights on when it gets dark........ just like your parents had to do as well as the motoring public has had to for the last 100 years hehe.

Or intentionally blow the fuse by switching it to a spot that requires a higher amperage then swap it back. If they want to look for it will be there.

DRL & Auto Lights are different!... and the problem isn't the drl.. it's the lame ass auto lights in the car... slow to change from dark to light... but no problem going light to dark

Pulling your DRL won't do anything for you..unless you want to preserve your hids

I honestly don't see why everyone makes a big deal about having either auto light or daytime running lights. The only reason to pull tue drl fuse is to make hids work. Other than that I wouldn't bother, you're not improving the car in any way. The daytime running lights work perfectly, with the way they work they aren't always turning on and off in dusk situations and every shadow like my sensitive grand prix is.
