Thermostat location?

Seems like a stupid question, but best to be sure. That water neck to the left of the purple wire harness in this pic is where I assume the thermostat is. This is below the master cylinder reservoir. One hose leading to the radiator others leading elsewhere. What else would be there?

Yes.....that is the one. No need to disconnect hoses though. You can change the thermostat without all of that extra work.

Just did my thermostat the other day. Again. Just took 2 bolts from the top off and popped it out.

Anybody know how you're supposed to reach the petcock on the radiator to drain it? I can't get it from the top or the bottom very easily. I'm guessing it takes removing some other pieces. I could start taking stuff off, but I'd like to minimize that kind of work by knowing what exactly should come off.

Don't think you have to drain the coolant to swap the thermostat. Atleast I didn't this time. But if you want to you could just reach it from the bottom. It's not really that hard just reach under there lol

I want to drain and refill the coolant, since it's been 5 years. I can "touch" the valve from the bottom, but getting a pair of pliers on it to break it loose and turn it is another story.

I was able to get it broken free using a 21mm socket. It fits nicely over the valve and made it really easy to start turning. Then I could finish turning with my fingers.

It's on the driver side of the engine block on top. Under the fuse box

FYI. You have to take the fuse box off to change the thermostat. If you've never done it, I'd look up a how to because it's a royal PITA if you don't do it properly. First time I did it, I ended up bending some of the prongs for the relays and fuses and had to bend them back. Also, make sure you torque the thermostat housing properly
