Thinkin of going wingless. couple questions

First off i think it looks awesome wingless. So i wanted to know how much everyone paid for body work and or if they just got a diff trunk from another cobalt. Which would be the best way. Any opinions? THANKS

I think it'd be best to get a different trunk, that way if you ever want to sell your car you can return it back to factory stock.

If I were to go wingless, that's the way I'd do it.

when you remove the high rise or low profile wing...it leaves 4 holes right?

not two?

Why buy a new hood? Who needs body work?

Just cap it..?

I went to the dealership and had them take a wingless trunk from a balt and swapped it with my low-rise, its a win - win situation.

It leaves two holes on each side. If you mean new trunk then yes that's the best option... and the plugs look ugly IMO is why trading trunks is ideal.

IDK

how much would a trunk cost? If its more then a few hundred then its completely out of the question for me lol

I think if you just added some kind of slim cap or somethin it would be fine....I'd rather spend that money on power adders rather then a new trunk....

I too have been thinking of removing my wing, and instead of body work or swapping trunks,i am going to have my graphics guy match my yellow and put vinyl over the trunk. This is way cheaper than body work and can easily be reversed.

even better then caps or plugs!

see? buying a new trunk is completely pointless and is really only a good way to burn money away

If you're happy with how pieces of vinyl look on your trunk then by all means do it... like I said swapping trunks is the easiest way and costs nothing.

I removed my wing and plugged it. I took a step back and looked at the car....than quickly put the wing back on. The plugs look horrible in my opinion because they have to be pretty big to cover the holes.

I'd buy a wingless trunk or have the trunk welded and repainted.

it leaves 4 holes from bolts, and 4 more than are "(" shaped. 2 around each upper most hole

If you go to someone who has wrapped cars before it will turn out nicely.I agree swapping is easier, but not everyone can do this

i swapped mine out even steven and the guy even drove like 4 hours to come get it and i know for sure since wingless looks so sexy that if i needed to get rid of my car for some God forsaken reason (life or death situation of course) i could go right back to that trading thread and get it done in a day.

i'm a body man, i did it myself, i filled in the holes and everything, if whoever does it does it right they can blend the paint when they're buffin it so that way you don't have to redo it all

It would be about the same to get a new trunk. Its like $350 for filling the holes and painting.

The problem with taken off the wing is you need 2 small plugs and 2 big ones. When I did mine I used ones that where like an inch and a half or 2 inches. Its ugly. Plus when I pulled the wing off I didn't the hood. And the paint at the edge when all the 3m tape was looked like it was scratched bad. I would just go with a new wing. Lol follow someone In a base cobalt and aske them if they would trade haha. But seriously the caps look real ugly. Needless to say I put my wing back on bc I was tired of looking at them.

You could get a foot-long strip of chromed or black body molding like you put on the sides of the car so other car doors don't dent your body panels, cut it into 2 6" pieces and place them over the holes, parallel, running front to back. Years ago some cars were out that had OEM strips of chrome to act like an exposed luggage rack, so it's not like it hasn't been seen before. I don't know if that would be acceptable-looking or not. 2 6" strips I think would be better than 4 individual plugs, but I'd like to see pics of the filler used by jerrodmann, that might be the easiest and least expensive solution. Maybe use RTV silicone sealant, or maybe that's what jerrodmann is talking about.

Also, if you're going to swap out the whole trunk, why not try to scare up a used trunk out of a junkyard and have it painted?

Buy a carbon fiber trunk and paint to match thats what im doing. at the sam time you can buy the shaved carbon fiber trunk with the key hole and the 3rd brake light shave already looks amazing doing that and no wing.
