Thinking about buying 2010 Cobalt SS

I have been shopping around for a new car as i think im really out growing my 2005 Dodge Neon SRT4. I was quoted $19,600 before taxes and fees on a msrp $25,930 Car. I owe $12,800 on my SRT and the dealer said $6500 for trade without seeing it. Talk about Shitty trade value..... I also plan on trading in a 2008 Honda CBR 1000RR with under 1000 miles. I owe $4500 for the bike and the dealer said trade would be $5k without seeing it.

I have a baby on the way and would rather have a new car with no miles then my srt and i have no time to ride the CBR now nevermind when my son is Born.

What do you guys think??? Should i do the deal? I'm gonna try and get atleast $6k for the bike and try and get $8k for the SRT. I wanna do something soon because there are only 5 cars within 100 miles of me. Still considering 08 Caliber srt4 with 10k miles and $17k

Sorry for the long post.

If you can, try to find a '09 sedan SS if you have a baby on the way. Trust me, much more family oriented than a coupe.

Sell the cbr and keep the srt4, you'll need the money for the newborn.

You got to admit, a rear door would make it much easier for getting the tricycle motors in and out.

Fiance has a 2010 Toyota Corolla that we will drive when we are all together. I will only have my son in my car maybe 15% of the time and dont mind having to deal with 2 doors the few times i take my car.

I dont like the looks of the sedan at all. Also im thinking that with the Negative Equity i have on the car that it would be smarter to get into a car thats sale price is $6k or so off MSRP. I was considering a 2008 Caliber srt4 $17k with 10k miles but it had a few scratches and i just liked the SS better.

Oh by the way my car has 76k miles and was a 6 year loan that is only going on 1 yr in august... figured car will prob have 200k miles when loan is done with. I hate having a car over 100k miles and think maybe i should bite the bullet while there are still cars out there.

my brother had a '06 Vette when his 1st son was born, lol... it was quickly replaced by a 4-door truck... even though his wife had another car, no time to use a 2-seater with a new born...

Don't do it. Priorities first. You are badly underwater on that trade in. Never roll over negative equity on a car.

I would usually agree with you but it's hard to pass up $19,600 on a 2010 Cobalt SS when i can afford it and have a car with 0 miles and Very Key.... Warranty

Both me and my Fiance work so i dont think money will be a issue. to be honest i think i may save money on insurance just having a new car instead of car and a bike. I guess im just stuck deciding New SS or Used SS/Cobalt SRT4.

Rolling 6k neg eq into yet another econoshitbox with a turbo (sorry, I call it how it is ) is... not smart man. I know a lot of people beating the hell out of SRT4's well into the 100's so thats a pretty **** poor excuse. This is coming from a guy who just rolled like 1.5k this Cobalt I bought. Are you able to get 0% interest at least like I did? That made the pain a little easier to deal with. Being able to lowball the **** out of the dealers on an 09 (that have been on the lot since late 2008). With all of the neg equity + tax/tag/title and even assuming you do 0% @ 72 months, thats still 400/mo. Just a lot of money a month for a Cobalt...

Also I would highly suggest you look for a left over '09, believe it or not there are still quite a few out there. If you insist upon doing this... at least go cheap as you can and they will deal on the 09's more.

To be honest it sounds like you're bound and determined to do this whatever any of us say, so I boggle at why you even posted. If you were truly wanting to fix the situation you'd go get a cheaper car.

Man to man, while you might be able to afford the monthly... the fact you're behind the 8 ball like this tells me you really can't afford it. Don't perpetuate the cycle.

I went from an 09 SS Coupe -> 10 Insight LX -> 09 SS Sedan and I really do like the sedan better, and I'm also a family man. The looks are debatable, but the extra doors are nice and also the visibility is muuuuch better in the sedan. Lots of other little things I like better about the sedan too.

You're too far upside down. Keep the SRT or sell it and buy something cheaper like Yaris. Welcome to fatherhood.

..IF you realy want out of the car sell it Private party.. For some reason they keep their value. Take less of a hit on it...drive a beater for 6 months sell that for what u paid for it or more, put some money down on a 10' ss and thats it.. If the dealer is selling it for 19K now don't you think you can get it for less in 6-8 months?...maybe even when the cruze comes out you will want that instead.... trust me don't jump into something you don't need 100% right now... I just got an 2011 Sonata SE (no navi) right after I cleared all my debt. its stupid. For one I could of got a better deal by getting a GLS model (by like 4K) or even 1.5K less if i got a gLS with Navi... But i SOO wanted this SE. I didn't even test drive it. I just bought it thinking thats what i wanted... The fact is I could of put my 6K down on something cheaper, or bought a nice used car for the 6K. Even if i had to buy a used car for 10K I still would be only 4K in the hole vs. 18K... Patience is the key. This would be my 18th car and Im only 27 years old< As you can see i never take my own advice lol
Debt is just part of life..just try to keep it at a minimum.

Your first mistake was buying a 2005 SRT for around 13-14k.

Truth

2nd mistake, a 6 year loan. Baaad idea. You're probably twice what you should in intrest. Pay extra on the loan and pay it off faster. That's the smartest idea IMO. Then look into buying someone once it's paid off. That 6 year loan is going to rape you, no way around it.

Live live and enjoy the cars now because I'm sure the wife will step in and say no more cars in a couple years

Fast one's anyways, so you might be drivng a buick regal, and not the new cool looking one either hahah

Good luck with you decision man

hahaha thanks for all your responses guys. just so you know i paid $11,900 for the srt 4 in august but i rolled in $800 for my ford explorer and of course there were othere fees added in that put the total sale a bit over $13k. 10.9% at 72 months means i am paying off alot of interest which is why i still owe alot. Honestly i figured id use my 08 cbr 1000rr trade to eat some of that negative equity on the car but almost hit the floor when i saw kbb traded is $5k.....

Assuming i can get a better interest rate on this deal and not have to shell out the cash for all new struts and springs for the SRT then i think rolling in $3k negative equity may be worth to have a new car.

By the way, i am going on 26 years old and have been making close to $50k per year so i know i can afford the car. I'm just unsure if i should go new SS or a used SS/ Caliber SRT in $17k range. Can't make up my mind right now.

And for the guys that are talking about 2009's.... I can't find anything local and want to stay within my region as i do have 2 trades.

Holy christ almighty. 10.9% for 72 months!?!?! First, 72 month loan is a big no-no. Just because it exists doesn't mean you should take it. Ever. And 10.9, wow.

**** me running 10.9%??????????????? You must have a FICO in the 500-low 600s? Why would you even sign that? What interest are you looking at on the new Cobalt if you can get financed through GMAC? They have been doing 0% 36/60/72 on the Cobalts, which is what I took advantage of this weekend... (36mo) but my FICO is also upper 700's.

Ask your dealer to search for 2009's in your region. I just look a quick look and there are a two 09 SS coupe < 200mi from you. Most dealers won't have a problem bringing one in. Just saying... if you insist on doing this at least get the lowest cost SS/TC you can. There are no differences worth paying extra for on a 2010 ... not really anyway.

BTW coming from someone who has wife+kid, the money you used to think was good won't be soon trust me and others on here on that issue

Like I said earlier, you've really made your mind up on this anyway... not sure why you came on this forum to get your ass rode.

I paid $14,600 for my 2009 with 8000 miles on it. They certified it so they put new tires and back brakes cause i didn't like the way they looked. That was 3 months ago, i felt that was a good deal.. Just do your research and you can find great deals

I had bad credit in my early 20's and my 1st loan was 14.9% yikes... after a year of having my 1st auto loan i wanted to get out of the ford exploder and always wanted a srt 4. I could just replace my suspension on the srt for over $1k and wait to pay it down more but with the rate and term i just figured it may not be worth it.

by the way, i appreciate all the responses and am not taking anything personally as i asked for everyones advice.
