Trifecta advice.
Trifecta advice.
I'm soon to be off warranty and want to buy Trifecta+Cable while it's on sale. I have a few questions first.
1. How close to GMS1 is the Cruise control off mode?
2. Do you have to ask for a specific psi setting?
3. What are the lower and upper limits on different types of tunes? I would like a conservative tune since it's my DD but more than GMS1. Better mpg always a plus.
4. Lower launch control rpm by how much?
5. Do I have to re-tune if I add-on a hotside charge pipe later?
6. Re-tune for winter? Major air temp changes where I am. Currently hotoutside.
7. NLS useable when CC off/on?
For under current mods
GMS1. W/Sensors.
K&N Intake.
For under tune request
-GMS1 when cruise control is off.
-Tune when cruise control it's on.
-91 Octane.
Anything else I should add when buying? Advice welcome, Thanks.

It will be real close to gms1 if that's what you ask for
You adjust launch control with cable and computer to whatever u want
A couple data logs will be necessary to make more power with the new piping but proly not necessary
On trifecta I've seen 18-25psi
Nls is usable regardless

When I ran trifecta I found that Vince was very responsive to my requests and gave me a tune that was exactly what I was looking for at the time. Shouldn't be a problem.
Not that if you go through a reseller be sure to be very very clear in your desires so that the guy in the middle will be able to pass your requests on to Vince and get what you ask for the first time. It's up to the reseller to pass your request through to Vince, but it is totally up to you to be able to communicate special requests in a manner that the reseller can understand and pass along without fail.
You don't need to ask for a specific psi. Vince can figure it out based on the description you give him if you give him a good description.
Shouldn't need a retune for just a hot side pipe.

Trifecta will give u decently more power than gms1, if u tune it that way. U can basically ask for whatever u wish power wise, if he agrees he will do it, u can tell him what psi u wanna run, I recommend 22 psi, it's safe and makes good power. U don't have to retune for any inter cooler piping, they don't really add anything but looks and they r metal instead of plastic. If u have the cable, all minor adjustments to tune are free, stuff like bigger turbo or cams ull need a new tune. U don't have to retune for winter, I never do. Just do ur tune in fall when weather is not hot or cold, in winter ull make more power with colder weather. The launch control thing is built into the software u download to flash ur tunes, u chage it there before u flash em. So no u don't have to pay for that. Advice, save all ur tune files. Stock tune and any other files u get, I have 5 at different psi levels . And cruise control is better to use than traction control to activate tune, cause if ur abs screw up and ur traction control stops working, ur tune is activated

2. Yes, I am on 23.
3. With your intake and a 3" down pipe, 300whp easy.
4. Set what you want.
5. Nope.
6. Shouldn't have to worry about it, they're pretty conservative.
7. I woukdnt use it, it's not meant to handle the increased boost. Vince had a nice post about why you shoukdnt use it on the HP Tuners forum (I believe) somewhere.
Thanks for the advice everyone. I live in cwood Ontario. Going to buy through BNR here with the sale. Aswell as cable for less hassle.
I'm going to ask for moderate 22 psi tune if possible. Is moderate an okay word for keeping reliability? Will a moderate 22 psi tune be more noticeable than GMS1? or just slight 10whp gains?
I'd prefer keeping trifecta engaged with CC on just for the fact of winter. I don't use cc in winter and I won't need the tune either. I'd prefer GMS1 as possible for CC off. Will my CC be affected by this in the summer? Will I lose the function or mpg's?

Instead of laboring over your vocabulary and trying to decide if "moderate" is the right word why not tell them what you're telling us in the words you're using.
I (do/don't) ___ want a 2 stage tune. I want a tune that gives me more horsepower than the GMS1, yet by no means do I want to sacrifice reliability in any way. I'd like to use my (cruise/esc) _____ for the switch, making the stock tune one level and your tune the other. I want your tune "on" when the cruise is in the (on/off) ____ position.
Fill in the blanks and go from there. As I recall they also have some sort of questionnaire on the order form too.

1. i got rid of gms1, when i went trifecta, due to trifecta being more power. My other tune is stock, for gas mileage, but you can do whatever you want.
2. Yes you can ask for specific things, but Vince will probably set it up based on your mods and preferences. I am at 25psi, but i asked for it. he is pretty safe on his setups, and will usually go to the conservative side.
3. see answer #1
4. you can set launch control wherever you want, however, you wont see actual rpms as the tach is electronic, and gets messed up by you changing the setting. I just listened to the motor and gauged where it was.
5. dont have to retune unless you change something major. Trifecta tunes aren't setup to be full out.
6. i doubt you would have to tune for winter, not like your going to push it that hard with a cold road surface.
7. nls works on mine on both tunes.
Advice- i am setup to run stock tune with cruise control on, which only means its turned on, not set. My high boost tune is active when cc is off, because if im on the higher horsepower tune chances are im not using cc anyway. But you can do whatever fits your driving style better. If you have anymore questions feel free.

Gotboost?17 what kinda tune you going to rock bro?
Another question. What if I want to take my k&n SRI off for winter. Will I need a re-tune than aswell, or will it be okay with CC trifecta off? Do people end up with like 10 tunes and just hookup there laptop and change anytime?

Why would you take your intake off?
If you want to use cruise as an on/off switch I highly suggest you have the tune on with cruise off so you can still use cruise no matter how infrequently you do.

U can change ur tune anytime but why take intake off for winter? Doesn't make much sense, if u think ull get better gas mileage on stock, u won't. Just leave it on. But to answer ur question. Probably wont need retune. I just leave my one tune on all the time, the other ones are just to play with. One is for more power, 2 are for use with bov, one is for less power.

ill Try an get a race tune, and a tune more aggressive than stg1 but not as crazy as the race tune if its possible,
an i took my intake off when i owned one for winter
And hows everyone getting a few different tunes?
Here in Ontario we use tons of Salt and sand and I find the engine bay to get pretty grimmy from Winter. I also drive a ton around the province for work. Why put the K&N through that? Buy a new filter every year?
I'd rather have tune on with cc on. I don't want to have my tune turned on by default in the winter. I don't use CC in winter. You don't lose the CC function having tune ON do you?
I don't think the mpg would be affected too much if your not on it in tune mode and just CC'ing would it?

I went from gms1 to trifecta recently and I love it. definitely a noticeable difference. Gms1 is like 280 at the wheels where my tune (running at 25 psi) I believe ill be around 320 whp. Have yet to get dyno'd tho. Torque is what will give you the noticeable difference and being fully bolted I should be around 360-380 wtq.
I know I haven't been able to wipe the stupid grin off my face since I made the change lol
Gotboost will Vince still do the ecp tunes? I heard otherwise.

1. How close to GMS1 is the Cruise control off mode?
Big difference. Me and my friend with gms1, both with full bolt ons. me with a 20psi conservative DD trifecta tune pulled about 3-4 lengths on him. each time. it's no contest. from the start i am pulling on him.
2. Do you have to ask for a specific psi setting?
I never did. I just said i want a tune for longevity. I don't want an aggressive tune. But i think if you want, you can ask vince for however psi you want to be at.
3. What are the lower and upper limits on different types of tunes? I would like a conservative tune since it's my DD but more than GMS1. Better mpg always a plus.
you can have it as low as me obviously, and he used to have an infini boost tune which was 26-32psi. but he got rid of that. i think on pump gas you can have 24psi.
4. Lower launch control rpm by how much?
however much you want. you can decide it.
5. Do I have to re-tune if I add-on a hotside charge pipe later?
no you do not. but it's best if you want to go full bolt ons. to get ALL of your bolt ons first. then retune it. don't bother vince every time you get 1 bolt on and ask for a retune.
my advice to you is to go on turboxs.com. they have the BEST parts for cobalt SS/TCs. no one can compare with them. and their prices are pretty good too !
6. Re-tune for winter? Major air temp changes where I am. Currently hotoutside.
umm... this i think it's a myth really... no matter how much proof and data people provide... i have had summers as hot as 110 degrees, and winters as cold as 9 degrees. and i drive my car all the time. there is no difference really. for me at least... the only difference is when it's 100+ degrees outside and 100% humidity, the car does not move when you floor it lol...
7. NLS useable when CC off/on?
NLS is always usable.
even with traction control on, off, or in competition mode. or w.e
BUT! if i were you, i would not do this if you are in anything that has over 300whp. gms1 is okay to NLS, but i would not recommend it for a tune that is more aggressive.
