Turbo problem question
So I’m buying a 2010 Cobalt SS Friday, it’s from a dealership with pretty good reviews and the guy was up front about a problem it has, he said after about 15 mins the turbo stops working also stating that if you turn the car off then back on it will be like normal for another 15 mins. The other day he replaced the MAF and said now it goes longer but still cuts off, he add that who ever had it before him put an aftermarket inner cooler on it and relocated one of the sensors so question is what would make the turbo cut off after a bit then be fine once you crank the car again?

Start with a boost leak test. That could be a cause of it, assuming the code was a p0101 which made the tech replace the maf.
Also make sure a manual boot controller wasnt added without proper tuning.

When this happened to me, I would be able to spool but it wouldn't hold full boost. would hit 15 drop to 10, and repeat. then would eventually stop boosting. Turns out the nipple on the lower charge pipe that goes to the solenoid on the intake manifold was broken so it was letting the BPV open when it shouldn't have. So I'd start with checking vacuum lines of everything. If the MAF sensor is in the lower charge pipe it's gotta be tuned for it. Definitely throw up some engine bay pictures so we can do our best to identify things that look touched.

He said the turbo still spins but doesn’t make boost after a little while then when you turn the car off then back on it’s fine for a little while then same thing

Okay so I got the car, it’s pretty dang nice but yea boost after about 5 mins of driving stay around 5 psi and I have an check engine light and the codes are
C0460
P0101
P0107
The first one is steering colum, the 2nd i know is MAF, and the 3rd is dealing with the map sensor. I also took 2 pictures... edit it won’t let me upload them

Upon further inspection it has 2 new MAF sensors, it also has ZZ performance intake (I’m assuming that’s what it is.. actually I will load the pictures onto my profile so you guys can view them for your opinion on what the problem is

I can tell you exactly whats happening here. only one sensor gets relocated, that's the maf. 20 bucks says the guy installed a blow off valve, relocated the maf and never tuned for the relocate, which means its getting a p0101 after 15 minutes because all the metered air is going out the bov. p0101 code will make the car go into a super rich mode and it will not boost. dealer didn't need to change the maf. here is what you do to fix. either get someone with hptuners to tune for the relocate, or put the maf back on the intake, im guessing there is a block off plate there, then put that block off plate on the lower charge pipe where the maf was, then check if you have a stock bpv on the turbo if u do, make sure its hooked up, if u don't, get one. and last remove the bov and block off the port, or get new upper charge pipe with no bov port. fixed
anyway that's what im assuming based on the relocated maf...or the 2 maf sensors apparently lol if there is no bov, then unplug the maf in lower cp and plug in the one on intake

yes we need pics to confirm or toss my theory. there is a good possibility if this is what happened, there was a tune for the bov and dealers, cause they don't know much, when they got the car, went ahead and flashed ecu back to stock and screwed it up.

I can't tell where the mag has been relocated to? Where does it trace back to? The lower map sensor epoxied to the cold side charge pipe isn't good. The little screws that hold it in are bored straight through that pipe. If the screws aren't broke off in there already you need to run some in there because it will pull in unmetered air into that cold side pipe right around the lower sensor. I'm guessing the maf has been relocated into that pipe and it's not tuned for it like several have said.

Well I was wrong. Lol there are not 2 maf sensors there are 2 map sensors, which is what there should be . you have a cold air intake with maf moved further toward filter....should be fine. Id get rid of the intake and get a k&n . cold air get wet and mess with ur maf. There is a hood possibility you have a big leak somewhere. So do boost leak test. That plastic stock piping is known to crack.

I put a screw in it and nothing changed, I’m going to take the front bumper off tomrw at work and see if there is a problem with the IC but my mechanic buddy said it’s probably a wiring issue or ECM since you can literally cut the car off then right back on and it holds boost for another 5 mins. He said the ECM is probably not letting it go to full boost but I am hoping this is not the case

Well I just found some useful information on here, apparently people who installed (some of them) cold air intakes were saying theirs ran like crap and it needed tuning because of how sensitive the MAP and MAF sensors are on these particular cars so that being said idk what to do precisely, I figure I need the stock SS **** back for it to run right IF that is the problem, correct?
