turning 25 next month.

And my insurance premium is goin down!~!!!! YEA!!!!!

I was paying ~$1300 every 6 months for the last year and a half and now Im gonna be paying ~$892 every 6 months. Is this a good deal? should I be looking else where for insurance? I have a spotless record so I feel its kind of high but it might just be the stigmata of owning a cobalt SS.

Im 21, have 4 speeding tickets, and 2 not at fault accidents. Drive a 05 SS, adn I only pay 180$ a month. or 1080$ every 6 months. What was your record like before? Cause you were getting screwed.

After you turn 25, you shouldn't be paying any more than 500 bucks for 6 months, with a $500 deductible.

I also turn 25 very shortly and am looking to see what my rates drop down to. I drive a redline so it's not as bad as the "SS stigma" but if your still paying more than $120 ish a month you might want to check your coverage, $500 deductible and my rates (spotless record as well) were about $150-$180 per month so $900-1080 every 6 months since I was 21-24.

Should be noted that I am on my parents insurance with the discounts for good grades in college (before I graduated)

What you pay for insurance is determined by many factors. The type of car you drive, your age, your driving record, if you drive to school or work, how far you drive to those places and how often, and where you live, especially your ZIP code. If there is a high rate of car theft in your area then your rates will be higher. If there a lot of uninsured motorist that have had tickets/caused accidents, then your insurance could be higher. So in short, just because one 25 year old pays more or less then you does NOT mean your insurance will be higher or lower. In short the insurance companies determine rates using statistics and how much has been paid out across your area.

But he should still look around because each company has different statistics and formula's they use to produce the rates (assumed, not backed by fact). And the places you live are very important to your rates mine went up about 20% when I moved from a smaller town to san antonio (approx 6x as many people and i'm pretty sure more uninsured)

unfortunately I got a speeding ticket in august of 09 2 months before my 25th birthday, so once august comes and goes this year, I'll be getting a re-quote again.

Factors in insurance quotes:

Location (biggest factor)
Driving History
Credit Worthiness
Types of Coverage
Sedan vs Coupe (color doesn't matter anymore)

I went from State College, PA paying $60 per month to Aston PA and pay $106 per month for both of my cars.

That does seem a little high, but I suppose it depends on alot of other factors as well. I'm 25 and pay $96 a month for my 09 ss/tc and a 92 pickup. Shopping around couldn't hurt. On the other hand any reduction in insurance costs is always a good thing.

Im with Allstate's stand "are you in good hands?

I live in Bel Air, Maryland which is a typical suburban area outside of baltimore city. I have a clean history as i've been told. Had a DUI bad when I was 22 but I recieve probation before judgement at the time and I did everything I needed to do to get rid of that. other than that hiccup, I havent had a speeding ticket or an accident in over 6 years.

When I applied for the insurance, I was in Baltimore going to school at UMBC. In fact the Allstate officer who insured me is still down there in Baltimore. Could he think I live in the city or would he know my place of residence, pretty sure I already told him and my address is on the premium. was just thinking maybe its high because he thinks im living in Baltimore.

Also I lied to the insurance company and told them I only drive 3 miles or less to work and I have 26,000 miles on the car already

oh, and I got $1000 deductible on collision and $100 deductible on comprehensive.

move comp and coll to $500. $100 comprehensive is driving your rates up.

I've always found Geico to be the cheapest when comparing insurance companies.

Hell, I got a quote from them to replace my car with an 02 ZO6 and my insurance WENT DOWN $40 per 6 months when replacing the cobalt with the Z06!

Looks like I'm making a trade!

Even when I turned 25 State Farm was still raping me on my 2.2L. When I bought the TC I did some online quotes here and there and found an insurer that looks at displacement and vehicle cost only. I confirmed this by checking quotes online for a 2.2L Cobalt vs the SS/TC and found a place that charged me less (substantially) for the TC primarily due to it being a 2.0L motor. Win !

Insurance between Canada and the US is slightly different, but as comparison I'm paying $116/month full coverage which includes $2,000,000 liability, collision, fire, theft, you name it .

but but but!!!! what if some idiot decides to key my car or kick my door in so that its repair cost is $497?!?!?! I'd rather pay $100 for something thats not my fault and $1000 for something that is :/

Theres gotta be another way to lower insurance cost on this car. most people tell its Allstates stand thats keeping my pockets tapped. There suppose to give you 100$ every premium renewal for no accidents. lol.

Turning 25 FTW. My wife and I both turned 25 last year and our rate dropped to $600 every six months for two drivers on three vehicles all with full coverage ('06 Cobalt, '98 Wrangler, '08 G6). But we were only paying $750/6mo before that...

If you switch your residence from Baltimore it would probablly go down. I recently moved from right outside of Boston to a more suburban town about 10 miles from the city and my rate went down about $20 and month just from that. $20 isn't a whole lot of money, but it adds up. That alone is saving me $240 a year. I would defianatly get a quote to see if it will go down at a different residence. Theft rates are usually slightly higher the closer to a city you are, so that may help.

Currently I'm paying $5200/yr. Just got a quote from progressive, stating 1 moving violation, full coverage, $500 deductible. for $2000/yr $3200 saving, guess I know where I'm getting extra money for mods now.
