so i'm driving me and my girl back from dinner doing about 50mph in 5th gear just cruising on a back road listening to some music, and all of a sudden without warning EVERYTHING (except my head unit) in my car turned off...including the engine....everything.

i was so confused. i pulled over to the side of the road and sat there for a few seconds, cranked it over and she fired right up...and no problems since.

but how the hell could that happen? it was IN GEAR and it didn't even sputter or anything...it just.....turned off. it went from completely normal to off just like that.

i flashed a new tune on my car a couple hours before that with some experimental stuff but only dealing with the idle of my car...so i feel like that couldn't have been the problem...but who knows, tunes can do weird things.

any ideas??? thanks guys. wondering if you guys are as weirded out as i am.

 

What did your girl think about the situation? That's the question.

 

My car did that before but it was because of a battery issue. Battery was on its last leg. Hope you get it figured out might not come back in next time haha

 

lol my car's battery also died when i was with her once...and i got pulled over with her...i think she's bad luck for the balt lolol. but she just kinda was like wtf and then we moved on hahaha.

All I can say is battery or something is up with your ECU. Start from there. Btw, for me that's a sign to just get it on if the lights go out and you have your girl next to you.

 

bad terminal connection. but car was running and would run mostly off the alternator anyways. weird, test ur alternator and battery

 

Had something similar happen, but i hit a large bump/pothole so the whole car shut off. I'm a 2LT though and it's an auto. Only quick thought I have.

 

My lanyard pulled my key out of the run position a few times so id start with the easy stuff first also i believe there is a sensor on the car that kills everything in case of a accident i had a buddy with the same issue on his truck everytime hed hit a pothole it would die and he had to replace the sensor

OK this may sound crazy but bear with me and please no flaming. Does your girl have mulitple personalities? I forget the real name for the condition. Anyway the funniest thing is my ex has multiple personalities and when she's riding in my car it sometimes throws random codes and has died even just like you explained. These things don't happen that often. She says that when the others up there are really active that electronic things mess up. I've noticed this several times. It really ***** with cell phones. But like I said when she gets in my car and is having one of those days where the others are really active up there my car will idle funny and throw codes for **** I've never seen before. Even die randomly and go in limp mode stereo mess up and all kinds of stuff. I'd drop her off and get a block away and all issues withnmy car would subside.

100% serious. I mean the brain runs off electrical impulses and just like an electronic device I don't see why if it was being worked pretty hard it couldn't put off electronic interference. She had the effect on my last car too only not as severe. Think I'm nuts do some Googling. It was just an idea put out there. Take it or leave it.
