i'm gonna try to teach my 15 y/o daughter how to drive a stick. the only stick car we have is the cobalt. i think i am gonna "de-tune" it. lol. i'm might get my new clutch i have been wanting afterall. ha ha.
Good luck! haha I tried to teach the wife and it didn't go well and now with my new clutch it will never happen. hell i have trouble with it and been driving stick for 20 years lol..
i have this same issue. she knows enough that if i had an emergency or something she could drive it, but i would have to talk to her through it. so lets just hope nothing ever happens to where im unconcious. if it did happen, she probably wouldn't be driving me anywhere anyway because she wouldn't be able to get my fat ass in the car by herself. lol
I must have taught at least ten people how to drive stick on my civic back in the day. That same stock clutch was at 150k when i sold the car with no problems. Either I'm a good teacher or Honda had a great oem clutch in 1994
i'm not too worried about the clutch really. i'm more worried about the power of the car. thats why i might detune it (even slower than stock). she seems to have a lead foot. lol. my son tells me don't mess with it, that she will be fine.
I taught my Wife on a '78 Celica GT and my Daughter on a '97 Cavi Z24. Be patient and she'll do fine.
My Daughter is still a gearhead at 30. lol.
Takes after her old man.
10 psi would be plenty. ~200 hp I'd guess.

broke, my approach was gonna be set rev limits to 5K, speed limiter to 99mph, and set torque per gear to 50% down the entire column of all gears. also, so she didn't over rev it from the take off i was gonna set those two tables at 3K. when she gets better, keep bumping it back up until it gets back to stock. lol.
Just set the rev limiter at 1500 in P/N then she can hit the gas & dump the clutch. lol.
Your way might work ok, that should be around 10-12 psi anyway but I'd lower it more in first, maybe 30%. That's where she'll have issues learning. I know when I was learning on a '65 Malibu SS 327 4 bbl 4 speed I had a hard time with all the power when starting out. Drove the old man nuts slamming him back in the seat all the time since I didn't want to kill it.
4.11 axle and a rock crusher trans/Zoom puck clutch.
Man, I'z OLD!

I learned to drive with a stick before ever driving an automatic. Never wrecked the clutch or anything. Still had the original clutch with almost 115k miles when a drunk hit me. I probably did about 50k of those miles.
The only problems I remember was my dad telling me to let the clutch out slow while pushing in the gas at the same time. Of course slow meant stomping the gas and dumping the clutch the 1st time or 2.

even though there isn't that many stick shift cars out there, i think everyone should know how to drive one. i know, my wife knows, i taught my son, and now the daughter must learn.
I agree, I learned to drive with a manual tranny. I've tried to get her to try many, many times. She just doesn't show interest. If her parents would of done the same, maybe more than one of her six siblings would know how as well.
If you want to make it real easy her 1st day, raise the idle to 1000 rpm so she doesn't have to think about the throttle when letting out the clutch. Then Day 2 lower it back down. It all depends on how bold or timid she is. I'd hate to see her be overwhelmed the first day and lose interest. Only you can coach her along.
I taught my Daughter to drive a car at 15 on an '84 Fiero automatic but she learned the clutch/shifting thing on a old Honda SL-70 when she was around 12 so the Cavi stick was no real big thing to learn.
She already understood the concept.

Just messing with you, I don't have much more room to talk.
If she can't learn on the LNF factory clutch, she's not going to learn on any.
LNF factory clutch is the easiest clutch I've ever had in any car. I've owned at least 1 stick car for the last 10 years (not including when I was younger).
Btw I taught my 15 yr old niece how to drive my HHR SS in the highschool parking lot on the GMS1 tune.
Afterwards I let her sit in my turbo van and press the ACT clutch in and she was thankful not to have to learn on that clutch

I tell my wife fast cars keep you from getting old and I am too young to drive a responsible car
I'm 50 in two weeks and I am in the middle of teaching my son to drive stick on the Balt. He hates driving my wifes envoy xl because it is the size of a bus and I can't say I blame him.
I wonder whether you could run a dual tune so it defaults to a lower psi and run a stage 2 as the second tune. Can a tune control the actual psi via the bypass valve? Or is it either off or on?
