What is Learn Down?

I have noticed the term "learndown" (sometimes shown as "learn down") used in several posts and I have no idea what the heck this is. Can someone please explain this to me?

Pretty much on stock tune, bolt-ons will not give you any power. The ECU learns down to always maintain 260/260, unless you get a tune then you will benefit from mods such as a downpipe or IC, where as stock tune you won't benefit.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I'm assuming this is for anything with the LNF engine, not just the Cobalts? Curious because my wife's daily driver is a HHR SS 5-speed.

on the LNF engine (2008-present Cobalt SS models) the learn down feature is a set power level that the computer commands on the engine. The computer has a set limit of air that it wants to let in and as a result the boost will change PSI to compensate for the colder/warmer air.

That is my view on the subject
