Exclamation What Tires Should I Get?

here is what i have in mind, i cant make a decision on which tires i want....

Nitto 555
Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec

---those are the 2 i cant decide on, both in stock size, 225/40R-18
from what i have seen and read, the Dunlop tire has a 5 star rating, while the Nitto only has a 4 star rating... i want the stickiest of the 2.... who can help me with this? i just dont know which to go with. and also, can i get them in 235/40R-18 on the stock rims?

Rubber ones.

Nitto 555's are apparently good. Iunno.

I favor the BFG KDW2's.

Go with the Star Specs...known as a great auto-x and road racing tire.

Depends on what you want to do. You wanting tires that'll work as daily drivers or something for the track and daily? or just track tires?

I would say the dunlops are a little stickier. But again your just going to spin the **** out of those as well. with the 555's you could get two 555r's and put regular 555's out back.

Please don't get the 555's. If the are the 555r's then that is a different story. I hated my 555's in the rain and they didn't grip (Autox) well at all. They were ok in a straight line...

The two tires you listed are like comparing apples to oranges...two totally different classes of tires. The star specs are a awesome tire in the rain and can keep up with the best street tires in the dry. Look at the SCCA nationals this from this year.

I would also recomend the kumho xs, they are great for how cheap they are

Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3s. I am shocked these have not been mentioned yet. Simply amazing! I have yet to see a set of tires that compare to these in the rain or dry. Can't vouch for them in the snow since I'm in FL.

I like the re-11's as well...but for the price the star spec's and xs's are right with that tire. There are some comparisons with all the top street tires in sports car mag. I think road and track did a comparison test as well....I'll try and find it...

Edit...ok it was car and driver:
http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...r_spec_page_11

Also GRM did a testing on the top street tires:
http://grassrootsmotorsports.com/for...a/10151/page1/

Here is a good thread about the sports car mag test.

Drag strip sticky or road course sticky? Drag strip duty on stock wheels Mickey Thompson ET streets, 245/40 R 18 is the only size that will work.. Road course or auto X Take your pick of Yoko Advan AD-08s, Potenza RE-11s or Dunlop Z1 star specs. I would run 225/40 R 18 or 235/40R 18 in these tires.

I may, just MAY roll around on all 4's when the turbo swap is complete. Dunno yet.

thanks guys, this all helps, i still jus cant decide on which of the 2 to get... i drive my car everyday, rain or shine,,, i like to play around with people, and my 1st through 3rd gear is pure wheelspin, so i just need the stickier tire of the 2.... i dont fly through traffic or curves or do road courses,, i dont drive crazy like that, i just do straigt line fun... thats it,, so, nitto 555's or the dunlop star specs....
