Why no RPD in Canada for the 2009 SS/TC??

I have yet to hear an answer I'm willing to accept on why they didn't make it to Canadian dealer lists.........Why didn't the RPD make it to Canada? Can I buy one from the US and have a GM tech up here install it for me?? I need some real answers here

I would imagine it would be easy to have installed . It would make sense for GM to have the US and Canadian cars wired the same so i could be as easy as plug and play. It suck that they would bone you guys like that thou.

from what i can see there are two wiring harnesses one for the UAF and one that doesn't, it is controlled by GM high speed LAN. So my guess would be no.

So you're saying that we can't order one from the US and have it installed by the dealer??

well.. sorry? *shrug* whether or not YOU want to personally accept a legit answer... I guess that is a conflict that involves just you and yourself.

2+2=4.. but I don't accept it.....? Thats how I view your comment above? What do you want to hear?

Did you allready go to dealerships around your area and ask them?

Would it have anything to do with Canada using the *snicker snicker* metric system and GM jsut being lazy and not making the measurement conversion? Dunno really. just guessing.

Woah...take it easy buddy. He's just wondering as I am, why it isn't available in Canada and is hoping to get an answer from somebody that might know. It's hard to make sense of it, since the cars coming to Canada are built in the US as well (correct me if I'm wrong here, just from what I've been told...)

Sorry, I must be confused then... I could have swore you wrote that you "have yet to hear an answer you are willing to accept" I interpreted that meaning you heard several reasons, but just didn't agree or called BS? I mean at this point, it would be speculation. Considering how the 09s are just really hitting shelves this week in the U.S.

I am getting mine soon, I will for sure be posting pix/info in depth of the RPD display. I would be surprised if someone didn't beat me to it however. I know of at least 1 person who was supposed to be getting their 09 SS either this week or next. Someone in the community here, forgot who.

im chill. just poking a bit of fun at our neighbors to the north. But I was semi-serious on the metric suggestion? GM just to lazy to make conversions? They were like "Awwww **** it, we allready had to convert all the analog gauges.... no RPD for Canada.....Eh?"

If thats the case then buying the wiring harness and display would be the solution. It would be a bit of a project , but well worth it .

Man are you a law student , cause it seems your always looking for an argument? There hasn't been any concrete info given as of yet so why wouldn't he keep asking.

OP , i'll hop on dealerworld and see if i can find a wiring diagram or any part numbers later today.

x2... go metric!!... lol...

This system is interesting... I read most of this thread here and it seems weird to me for gm to use two different harnesses... I would think that the harness would be the same... but i guess GM has done stranger things

Is that how it works?

No... there is a solution... no answer yet to your question I seee.. but you could just buy the wireing harness and maybe the RPD unit itself like homeboy on bottom of page 1 said. ?

Better know how to wire through the A-Pillar downward.

First off, I myself will not be touching this car in terms of modding/upgrading to protect my warrenty..........to further that, I'm getting my car from a dealership I used to work at and still know alot of ppl in all the departments, which means anything that is done to the car will be at that shop and by one of the mechanics i know there. I'm stickin to my warrenty cause without it I'd be screwed.

Secondly, I took 1 year of Electronics Engineering, so there is ZERO doubt in my mind about if it can or can't be done, there is ALWAYS a way, it just may not always be as pretty as we'd all like..........I don't see how it can't be as simple as plugNplay but again, GM has done stranger things.

Coming from me, I think there will be a way for us Cannucks to order an RPD and have a local GM shop install it for you and still hold your warrenty ect. If GM does as they told us and they build an RPD unit for the S/C model maybe a "Canadian" version will be released at that time which will work on either S/C or T/C up here.

I don't buy the whole "didn't want to convert to metric" stuff. My guess here is that you can buy it from CED or similar American distributors and just wire it up. It may not read metric or some other weird thing that makes it non OEM here - but it should work just the same, no? The PCMs are the same.....

Thank God we all came out ok. I'll post pix of the Balt later....by the way. I just bought the 09 TC. Unfortunately, it doesn't have the big spoiler. Know of anyone in the GTA that might wanna to a trunk swap? I would swap with my SC, but I think some of the hinges may have been bent since the whole body of the car is slightly warped as well. =(
