108k Miles on LNF, installing ZFR, should I timing chain?
Hello all, I am installing a ZFR on my 09 TC. It has 108k miles. Should I 100% replace the timing chain?

I haven't heard if that kit from rockauto is any good but I personally would stick with oem. I'm kinda in your shoes I wanna upgrade my cams tho so if I do that might as well do the timing since the engine will be open. I would just do it for peace of mind since you will be pushing the car harder
I would get the deluxe kit from CED. The last thing you want to do is cheap out on something like the timing set, especially if you just dropped bigger money than that on a new turbo. Best case if you don'tget the better kit is it jumps time and you have to tear it all back apart again to do it right. Worst case you'll be looking for a new motor in short order.
Edit: That's just me though, as I hate doing big jobs more than once unless I wanted to do it again (e.g. new clutch, etc)

I ordered the Cloyes kit from Rockauto. The parts all have the same tooling / casting marks so I believe Cloyes is the oem supplier to GM.
The key items to change are the plastic guides, chain, and tensioner. VVT phasers and drive sprocket are probably fine.

Do it once, do it right. Especially with added stress of moving more air/making more power.
Chains and guides on these engines have a life expectancy of 150k or so. If your in there it would be a good idea to go ahead and spend the money now and change everything out.

I agree just do the tensioner! My 2010 has 133k on these days I did the tensioner at 100k. The chain and all the guides looked fine. My cars been pushing 22+psi since 70k and I'm also throwing on a 71 soon since the weather is steadilybetter here in Cali! Will see what that little engine does lmao worst case i get a new ldk which is no big my little lnf has held in way longer then I would have thought!
The chain stretches. You would not know unless you compared a new chain with the old side-by-side.
I took my chain out at 100k and it was 1 link longer than the new chain.
Just get the Cloyes kit and replace everything it comes with to save yourself the headache.

I replaced everything when they installed my built head last year. I figured while everything's apart, might as well. I was only at ~47K but some of those miles were pretty hefty. The way I drive my car it sure wouldn't last 150K lol.
BTW I still have my "old" timing set for sale if anyone's interested!

There is absolutely nothing wrong with that timing set. Or any of the other parts in that thread, for that matter. The numbers in my signature were made with all those parts. I only replaced the timing set as a precaution since everything was apart anyway. Move along if you're not interested.
