Buick is trying real hard to appeal to the young crowd, which is kind of working.

its returned to produce more TQ.

i like the car , but not the name. when i heard there was gonna be a turbo regal i instanly thought they took a CTS therew in a turbo V6 and were bringgin back the Grand nanatial...boy was i let down.

its a nice car, just not what they could have done with the name. should have kept its old name like the astra did. and it should have kept its 2.8 320hp turbo v6. who knows maby that will make its way here as the new GN.

The concept is rated at 255, but the production model with the 2.0l ecotec turbocharged engine that goes on sale in fall of 2010 says only 220 hp

I want a Insignia VXR!!! How much to import one lol

Heres the PDF spec sheet on the GS:

14" Brakes with 4 piston aluminum calipers?? Very impressive.

It says 220HP under the normal specs, but you have to click on Regal GS Concept. That's where you'll find the 255HP figure.

the regular Regal gets the detuned LNF with 220 hp. The Grand Sport gets 255 hp and 295 lb of torque. I am really interested in this car. They say 0-60 in under 6 seconds still. The power that it lost from the switch to the LNF over the turbo V6 is made up for in weight savings. And the power delivery from the 6 was apparently quite sluggish in the VXR/OPC

EDIT: ^^^ beat me to it

If its AWD, I would imagine that hurts the power rating with all the parasitic loss.

Manufacturer's Horsepower ratings are measured at the crank, not at the wheels, so they will be the same regardless of the drivetrain configuration.

The reason the Regal is different from the Cobalt is because the 220HP version is detuned, and the 255HP GS version is tuned for better low end torque (295ft/lbs instead of 260ft/lbs like the Cobalt).

The Regal CXL 2.0T get the 220/258 LDK engine, it comes out in the summer.

The Regal GS is just a concept at this time and has an LDK with 255hp/295tq.

People complaining about giving it the regal name need to realize it gets the Regal name because thats the name it gets as a Buick in other countries.....Also remember that the Grand National while based on the old Gbody Regal is now over 25yrs old, and Regal isnt associated with hotrod turbo coupes anymore, its been a fwd 4door sedan for longer than it was a rwd coupe. Last time it was a rwd coupe half over half the people on this site werent even born.

I look forward to them, I really dig the whole idea, I just wish that they werent gonna be so damned expensive/upscale. The LDK and 6M trans in a "base" Regal for under $27k would be my next car, but they areny gonna do that. Expect the 220hp car to be $30K, and the GS if it comes to be every bit of $38,000+

Ew.... now I hate this car. If the GS version really costs $38k that sucks. I would have only considered it if it were in the sub $30k region.

Now this car offically sucks... there are too many superior platforms and performance cars to drop that kind of money on a buick.

Thanks for the info Maven.

Yeah there is NO WAY IN F*CKING HELL it will be under $30k.

A Saab 9-3 2.0t XWD is over $37k, that doesnt have 20s, or brembos, or recaros, or the new engine, etc.

A base Lacrosse(big brother of Regal) is $27k, it has the same 2.4L LAF as the base Regal, it has cloth instead of leather in the Regal, it has steel wheels no alloys like the Regal, etc.....

Expect a Regal 2.4 to be $26-28, a Regal 2.0T to be$29-31k and the Regal GS to be over $38k

The Regal is shooting for the people who would be looking at the VW CC and the Acura TSX

I'm just saying for that kind of money I would rather get a used Z06. Or something else well established with superior performance. However, I can see what your saying.

Yeah the average Regal buyer would never be cross shopping used vettes as another option. LOL. $38k would get you a WRX and a whole truckload of evil.

Eh the regal GS won't be for everyone...it'll be for the people that want absolute comfort and luxury for their daily commute.

So, yes, YOU may buy a used z06...but the z06 is not the kind of car a lot of people are looking for as the z06 is usually not a "daily" commuter type of vehicle with a lot of nice comfort features...especially not up here in the northern states. This is a lot like an Audi A4/A6 competitor...very nice car IMO.

The vettes of nowadays make very good daily drivers. They get decent gas mileage and ride like a caddy. But like you say, where there is snow or bad weather, thats not the car for it (the vette i mean). I like the awd part of the regal but thats about it. Thats just me though.
