Belt slip when using NLS
Mine kinda sounds like someone starts to sneeze but holds it back! My friends laugh everytime they hear it. I just wrote it off as normal, or I'm not shifting fast enough and the BPV is starting to release.
yes, when i was stock i noticed the same thing, since then i havent NLS'd much.. but i have always thought it was the clutch grabbing hard and squeaking bad due to high rpms while engaging again... idk though... its a possibility its belt slip though cuz it is pretty loud...
I finally got this at the track. Didn't run her again after. It was the NLS from 2nd to 3rd. Almost seemed like the car wanted to bog down and die. I heard the squeek and the car took almost a full second to go again. Ran a 13.7 that run and it definitely should have been a 13.0 run or better!!!!!!!
I get the sound. so if indeed it is belt slip, why would performing a NLS cause the belt to slip at all? I don't find the sound results in a less effective NLS BTW. car seems to keep running like a scalded cat
Simply put its most likely caused by: Rapid engine deceleration of the engine coupled with inadequate belt tensioning system. On my car shifting fast enough in the right conditions will cause it, not just NLS. NLS is just the sure fire way to hear it typically.
Mine slipped too the other night I hit it in 1st reved to 7400 shifted to 2ndin I heard it squeak a little as I shifted. I never NLS it was a normal shift. It has never done it before that or since.
Nothing like one person's amateur opinion causing a bunch of other amateurs into believing they have belt slip issues...brilliant...
Welcome to the internet kids, the land of experts...
Nothing like a self proclaimed professional responding to a thread with no argumentative or supporting evidence of it not being belt slip.
It was my belt slipping. I have heard that sound enough times to know what it sounds like. What do you think it is Mr. Expert?
Wow, that was an interesting reply.
Short of mounting a mic in my engine bay, not sure how else to prove its the belt
like Term just said, and I said earlier.... have heard enough belt slips in my life to know. My F-bodies in particular had VERY similar slips between shifts on hard acceleration. Especially on the LT1 after raising the line pressure. Syclone also has a habit of slipping between shifts as the 700R4 is a very hard shifting transmission.
I'm all ears for other solutions, but don't just attack someone and not offer anything.

Anyhoo.
Tuned and NLSing led to this:

And I saw that with my own two eyes.
Idk, I had an f-body with a shift kit...and I know what belt slip sounds like...so that HAS to be it!
Oh, and all GM's have a tendency to belt slip...I know this...
Odds are, it's simply pressure/boost/wastegate/BPV sounds from the turbo...
If you can PROVE it's belt slip, then by all means do so, but coming on here and stating that this is a belt slip issue with the only proof being that 'I've been around a long time'...is crap.

You guys are simply looking for something because you heard a noise.
Dude everyone knows what a slipping belt sounds like, anyone who can confuse it with anything else probably should not be apart of a car enthusiast forum. Im pretty sure these two guys know if it was a belt slip or not that they were hearing... your making an ass of yourself.
