blown head gasket

my cobalt turbo blew the head gasket after 1800km. anyone else have this happen? or did they just not torque the bolts tight enough at the factory? not to bad a leak, took me 2 days to notice there was antifreeze in the oil. pisses me off though. didnt even drive it that hard since its winter here and all.

ya the mechs at the dealer looked at it said it doesnt seem like there is antifreeze in there but it looks funny, so my guess, there is antifreeze in there. lol at least now i know when they fix it im not likely to have that problem again. i hope.

Blown Head Gaskets are usually caused by overheating and most people have been having more problems with he car taking too long to come up to operating temerature rather then too hot. Do you live in extremely cold environment ? I see you are from canada but I ask because your thermostat could have froze and caused it to overheat ....

yes i do, but i kept an eye on the temp all the time there was no over heating. bolts to loose would cause it to. when i took off one of my tires they had the nuts way to loose i could have done it with my fingers almost. if they did it there, there is a possibility they did it elsewhere. plus i have a oil pan heater pad so it keeps the motor warmer. dont know if it would help to the point of not freezing the therm though.

Yeah I am not sure how much the oil pan heater heats the rest of the block but my conclusion is that your car is new and somehow the coolant mixture seperated from the water and caused the new thermostat to stick... It is new and hasn't been opened and closed too many times with that mileage ... And believe me it only takes a couple of minutes for it to freeze up and then release to cause damage to a 4 cyl. V8's are a little more prone to temperatures but the LNF from what I hear is very very durable at high temps... Maybe it was the fluctuation of temperature on the brand new motor which has caused it... I'm sure they will get it repaired and all will be good after....

The new avengers are like, the most reported warranty worked vehicle.

A handful of recalls too IIRC

i dont believe my car overheated. i dont drive very far to work and i got a heated garage, could have happened sitting at work i guess, but in minus 30 its pretty hard to have ur car overheat. iv had my waterpump belt go in like -10 and my old car didnt overheat, but it also didnt have turbo. iv seen rad fans go in this weather and the motor stayed at normal temp. but ya im pretty sure there was no overheating, wouldnt that have set off lights on the dash and showed a high temp? highest my temps gotten is 96C thats pretty normal to me.

Well in my shop we would replace the entire engine, that is the only way i have ever seen it done under warranty. I know the LNF motor comes with two options with or without the turbo, not sure what they are talking about, if the techs are trying to get more money because they have to rip more down to just replace the block yes i would bitch, don't get screwed just cause they want to make more money, contact GM customer service!!!! and talk with the service manager

maybe the service writer just said that so you would understand, not knowing if you know the difference between long block and short block. Unless it was more than the 70% rule

ya i dont think so, im gonna make sure i get a new block, i payed for it, and im not settling for any stupid fixes. i want what i payed for or they will wish i never walked into their dealership!!!!

if it breaks on me again, they better have a new car waiting for me when i drive onto the lot.

im gonna go there tomorrow and im gonna see if i cant get myself a new motor. and a stage 1 upgrade for my trouble. i honestly dont trust those guys at all.

Dont blame you, i have been working here 3 years and never heard of a warranty engine only getting the block, they have always gotten a brand new engine!!!
