Bolt ons

Hey everyone. Long time lurker first time poster kind of a deal going on here. I have a GT500 so I'm actually posting for my girlfriend who has a Cobalt SS. First off, let me say how much fun it is to drive her car. Even when coming down from a modded (540RWHP) GT500 it's still a blast. I love turbos and wanted to turbo my old Mustang GT before I got the Shelby.

She basically wants something "that adds some noise and power." Lol, yes that is exhaust. I've been using the search feature but haven't been able to get straight forward answers so I decided to finally post. I was thinking about a downpipe. Do you guys recommend catted or cat-less? What are the power differences between the 2? I ran an off road set up in my GT so I know what the smell will be like. That doesn't bother me or her too much. What brands do you recommend? If she was to go with a cat-less downpipe I'm assuming she would get a CEL (Check Engine Light). What would her options be to disable that? Would you guys recommend going with a downpipe first or a cat back system first? What gains have been seen from cat back systems? Are re-flashes (tunes) needed after every mod? Would a tune be able to disable a CEL and how much do they go for?

Thanks in advance,
yc420

P.S: There are no emission tests down here in South Florida so no worries with that one. Also, she wouldn't want something obnoxiously loud.

Well I got the clear image header and downpipe combo and i got a catted down pipe and its preatty loud on these cars so I wouldn't recommend a catless downpipe unless you like crazy loud exhaust. Overall clearimage makes some great products for the turbo cobalt so just check them out.

Will do. Thanks. Keep them coming please.

Did you do the install yourself? If so, how was it? Do you have any tips? I'm going to be doing this myself.

She wouldn't HAVE to get a tune after every mod. For all out max power... yes. However, I'm surprised it hasn't been mentioned and perhaps you know as the subject has been beaten to death. In case you haven't though, the ECU has a learn down feature in the stock tune. So whatever bolt on mod you put on the ECU will use an algorithm to bring the HP and TQ outputs back to stock.

Personally, if it were me and this is likely what I'll do myself. I'd get a tune and do a muffler delete. Just take it off and put a straight pipe on. The tune will bring the power your looking for and the muffler delete will bring the sound. I promise, she'll be thrilled just with those two things.

I do live in Davie actually. Very west Davie right by Weston Road. I'd love to see/hear your car. You recommend a Cat-less DP from CIA? I've gone with the GT before but not with the Shelby yet. I have yet to see a ss/tc at Sunoco. Only the supercharged ones.

I would get the downpipe from Hahnraccraft and get tune. The tune is where you get big power. You will not get a CEL from the downpipe.

Id recomend getting a tune first. It will really wake her car up. Next get a catless downpipe..ZZP makes a very good quality and still cheap priced one.

Very good choice.

Though if it was me I would go with a Catted DP with an electric cut-out. Stock catback.

Quiet closed. Loud open..also will be able to hear the turbo alot more.

Vince sends you a tuner. You upload the tune and then send the equipment back to him.

With his classic tune I put down 307/361 with just a muffler delete and an intake.

Ok, now let's say I was to just do a tune for now. How much does that usually go for? And let's say I add a downpipe or something later on down the road, is there just an upgrade fee or do I have to like pay for a whole new tune.

Thanks

There s an upgrade fee of $125 and to get a tune it is $325 I believe.
