Question Bottomed car out , got it back on the road and went into limp mode WTF!?

Car went into "engine power reduce " after we got in back on the raod and it started to bog out, and the boost gage and rpms are going crazy... Had a freind tow me home... I started it up this mornig and it starts fine but after the cat warm up cycle it starts to sputter at idle and wants to die out.... Any clue whats going on ?

Have a CEL but i havent got the chance to read the codes yet

I was at a lake lot and I bottomed out on some truck ruts in dirt/gravel, car started to sputter and wanted to die so I turned off the ignition... got pulled off the rut started the car and the rpm and boost gauge both started acting up and car was bogging out at idle, let it sit and it started to idle normal, got on road and it started to putter and went into engine power reduce....

Look at the bottom of the intercooler and see if the condensation plate is hanging/ broken on the passenger side. If not, take the bumper off and examine endtanks on intercooler and the lower charge pipe for cracks or splits or chunks missing.

How was it after the dealership replaced it and what exactly did they replace just the intercooler?

More than likely they only replaced his intercooler at that price. I will do an aftermarket intercooler at the same price for you if your in the area

Im in MD, and your in TX. I was kidding. The cost wouldnt justify me doing your IC for you. If I were in the area I'd do it for a hell of alot less. lol. like $50 or a 30 pack of good beer plus you buy the IC kit.

Just get the Treadstone TRE8 cobalt SS kit. its like $350 or $320 or something in that ball park.
Here's my DIY install thread.

If you have questions reguarding the install or the IC kit/ other IC kits, PM me.

It was just the intercooler, and maybe the hotside pipe.. It was pretty rediculous, but it was when I FIRST got my car and didn't know **** about it.. I think I made a thread about it 2 ima try to find it..

But yea, check to see what's messed up, and if it IS just your intercooler, get an aftermarket one, zzp, treadstone, or mpx is pretty good, and I think theyre in Houston 2...

P0089

P2101

P0101 - MAF

P0089 - fuel pressure solenoid control circuit voltage is implausible

P2101 - Control Module Throttle Actuator Position Performance

Sounds like you could have a bigger problem then originally thought....or not. I could be wrong these are just google search returns.

The P0101 is a MAF sensor Performance code. It is usually indicative of a boost leak.

The P0089 is a fuel pressure regulator fault. If the Maf is skewed due to the boost leak it is plausible that your fuel ratio has been thrown off by enough to throw the code

The P2101 is a throttle actuator control motor circuit range/performance. According to info I'm reading that is caused by a difference in what the computer thinks your throttle is at and what your throttle is actually at.

Are you able to boost at all?

If you bottomed your car you could have hit something more serious. The other codes could be a domino effect from the P0101 or they could be something else that occurred during the grounding of the nose. In order to find out... you need to get a new Intercooler and ensure there are no boost leaks

The 0089 and 2101 should probaby go away when you get everything fixed.. I threw a p2101 the other day and it went away by itself when I disconnected my battery for a Lil..

O hey, before I had the Balt, I had an Altima I got in grapevine

Try disconnectin the battery for a Lil an tryin again.. It won't hurt it, an it might jus put your car in limp mode... Which is enough to get around barely lol

9 times out of 10 its the intercooler. I have a spare aftermarket one at my house for next time this happens to me. It happene once and the dealership goodwilled it after i told them it didnt make since to engineer a fragil part of the intercooler as the lowest point on the car. he laughed and replaced it for me.

i have had the same exact problem in the past. crack in the intercooler or in the intercooler piping. i have had it happen twice. first time it just randomly got a hairline crack in the IC piping, the second time i hit a freaking cat and it cracked the ic piping. im about 99% sure that is your problem
