BPV Solenoid failure
BPV Solenoid failure
So in recent weeks my car was making a turbine sound during part throttle operation, and I've been experiencing intermittent low boost issues, along with a slow lazy boost climb. The turbo would be making a sound like a diesel truck with a big turbo as opposed to the normal wooshing sound I'd get from my intake. My first thoughts were boost leak, and I did tests and found my power brake nipple was loose, so I used some teflon tape and snugged it up, yet the problem persisted.
Next I turned my attention to my aftermarket BPV, I had a Boomba and I switched it out for the stock one and same problem. So discussing with my tuner, we speculated it to be the vacuum tank or the BPV solenoid. Switched out the solenoid and all problems instantly went away. I have heard of boost leaks frying peoples turbos and I'm sure if left unchecked all that spooling would take its toll. So far so good for now : ). Just posting in case someone else runs into the same issue, maybe it will save someone the trouble or even a cooked turbo. I never would have thought that would be the root of my problem....

That's an old problem and most people do already know to check that if ur symptoms arise. Those solenoid go bad often ebough. A boost leak won't hurt ur turbo unless it's a decent sized one, and those usually trip a code. Id also do a vac tank delete if I was u cause it can cause ur same issue or worse. But I guess now u know so if it happens it would be first thing to check
..
Even in forum searches I couldnt find any BPV solenoid info. So I guess I'm late to the party. I did see a lot of info on the tank delete though. Has anyone run into any issues from running a tank delete?
Better to just replace the Vac tank with a better homemade one. Easy enough to do with a check valve and some pvc pipe and end caps. The one that comes with our cars is crap. Horrible design, restrictive, junk.
The best thing to do is delete it from the system as it is not needed.
