built in garage door opener

just installed my own little mod. built in garage door opener. little red button beside the cig lighter plug under the stereo, heater controls. works great. if anyone wants to do it, just ask and ill tell u how i modded the opener. next on the list. relocate tc button to beside shifter, put engine start button in its place. if anyone knows where i can get the wireing diagram for the ignition so i know what wires to use, let me know.

I've always thought about a push start. But with chips in the keys the only way i think you could do it is to put the key in, turn it to accessory, and then push the start. And have the button wired in to whatever wire it would need to be in line with to complete a circuit. Not even sure if that would work.

Except the cool ones where the key just has to be on you or near by (in pocket, in cup holder etc). To the OP though...do you have any picture of this new mod? I would be EXTREMELY interested in seeing how you set this up and knowing how you did it!

ok ill go get it and show u guys how i did it.

oh and so its easier to change when say u move or ur button wears out or something, i made it so u can disconnect the button from the opener. i used the power connecters from a computer power supply. works awesome.

ok here goes.

Fist u need to get urself a pushbutton switch, i had a cheap one, just use one with 2 termanals.
here is mine installed in the car, i didnt take it our cause its all wired and heatshrinked up so u couldnt see the termanals anyway.

ok now get a computer power supply connector off an old power supply, or if u want u can just get some other connector or just straight wire it to the opener. i recommend the connector though if u need to change the opener.

solder the connector to the two terninals, doesnt matter what wire goes where. i also recomend pulling all but two wires out of the connector. makes sure u heatshrink the 2 wires as well just in case, i used dual wall heatshrink that has glue in the middle cause its awesome.

now take apart ur door opener, this is what it will probably look like inside.

Take out the board so u can get to the underside of the board. take out the battery so u dont open and close the door or short out the opener. be carful not to break the clips that hold it in.

ok, now to get the conection wired to the board. get another connector from the power supply, if the one on ur button is male, make sure u use female this time and vice versa. pull whatever wires ur not gonna be using out, make sure ur wires u use match up on both connecters or it wont work. now, first u want to drill a small hole in the case of ur opener, somewhere where it wont interfear with the closeing of the opener or where its not where the two halfs meet.
this is where i did it.

ok once u got the wires in the case through the hole u drilled, find out what 2 termanals in the back of the opener button will open the door. put in battery and take a small wire and connect 2 termenals to see if it will work. there are 4 terminals on the button in the opener that are soldered to the board, i used 2 diagnal from each other as shown.

i know there is a wire in the way off one connection, sorry, but it is oposite of the one u can see, not beside, the one beside will not work.

after u carfully solder the conections, if u want u can do this, but u dont have to. i put a little silicon on them to keep em safe from evil. lol

ok now that its all soldered up, put the board back in, replace ur battery, put the wire where it wont keep u from closeing the opener, and close it up. i siliconed the hole as well and let it dry.

after put some valcrow (spelling) on the back, (get it from any hardwear store.) i put silicon on the back of the valcrow as well cause the sticky back sucks, it doesnt like sticking well on the plastic.

ok now that ur done that, go to ur car, pull out the cup holder, pick where u want the opener to sit, take the other half of the valcrow and put silicon on the back and put it on the inside wall of the drivers side of the center consle through the cup holder opening. i found that the best place. let it dry before u stick the opener there. drill a hole where u want ur button, make sure dont make it to big, install the button, when all is dry, connect the connetors, and there u go. the first pic is where i did it. if u want it somewhere else in that spot, feel the back to make sure there are no wires or metal in the way.

enjoy.

Before u install it though, make sure ur button works.

I actually need it for my neighborhood gate, its a 2 button opener, with one function to open gate 1 or gate 2

I couldn't agree more, I tend to do the same, I added a glove box light which helps out alot! and i used a gasket material on all the interior trim's snap tabs, so it doesn't squeak when im driving around anymore.

same steps but with 2 buttons then. if u can get a switch that u can push the top and the bottom for different funtion and it always resets to the middle, that would work. i know u can get them and what they look like, i just dont know the name. look around. or just do 2 of ones like i used beside each other or top and bottom of each other.

Eh...After seeig the pictures I think I'm going to go a different and more OEM route with something from HomeLink...My old eclipse had one of these things built into the sunvisor and I'm thinking I might do the same...maybe built into the headliner right by the sunroof switch. Something like this one that's off of a Land Rover Discovery:

And Here's one of HomeLink's universal ones...I actually like the universal one better I think...

Trailblazers might I'm not sure...but regular Blazers just have a sort of cubby hole that you velcro your actual garage door opener into and then there's a buton on the outside that you push that is lined up with the button on your garage door...so its like a button pushing on a button (I've had 2 Blazers...worst 4 wheel drive system...ever).

if you search the internet you can find some for remote starters to. i would just put a remote starter on it to begin with. and i know everyone will say its a stick but there are bypasses for the clutch, there are security bypasses for the key. the only thing is when you get int the car you put the key in and turn it to where its on, not the acc. and if you leave it in gear with out the parking brake it wont start.

Hmm...there's gotta be some space to fit a HomeLink unit by the sunroof switch...that or I'll put it in the sun visor...
EDIT: Like in this picture...on the opposite side of the OnStar speaker to the right of the sunroof switch.

the normal blazers have them yeah mines does. right near the sunroof botten theirs 3 little other bottens in a row that's to open my garage door. it has to be a LT blazer to have that option. also how they had the trailblazer edition of the normal S10 blazer they have it also.

Hmm...I may just give it a try with the HomeLink setup...doesn't seem to rough...I'll order it up one of these days here....although for fear of messing up I'm probably going to do it in the Sun Visor because if I mess it up...a new visor can be had for nothing...a new headliner...kidna pricey I believe.
