cat temps

so i went for a short run today, and i boosted to 18psi in this nice humid hot weather. I checked my cat temp on my dashdaq and it got to 1800 degrees. is that normal to be that hot? im guessing yes cause the cat gets hotter to burn any unburned fuel and such, but dang thats high.

Basically if it's over 1700 degrees from my knowledge it'll go into COT protection. Your Lambda will lower from the COT protection which means you'll run a richer A/F ratio.

Going catless with a tune is the best route to go since you don't need to worry about COT protection

Correct anything over 1700* will cause the ECM to commanded 0.72 lambda which is mega rich. It does that to prevent that cat from becoming a molten blob. Catless is the only way to go on a Turbo car.

Hmm...interesting...I pose this question to the catless guys that are tuned for it...Does the car still act like a retard on a cold start when you go catless? I know that on a cold start mine does weird hesitating and jumping into boost randomly...did it stock to..

I think it's the warm-up cycle. I suppose it might be able to be tuned out. I notice no matter how warm it is outside the turbo is up to 10 inHg after I first start it when idle is normally 20 inHg. (for me anyway) I'm pretty sure that's the jerkiness, etc. I'm guessing it's to get oil flowing into the turbo??

I just wait for the boost to drop to 20 inHg no matter what the day is like.

Yes the car still acts retarded, there is a way to adjust the cam angles to the same as it would run under normal conditions but no way to adjust the -16 to -18* timing advance nor can you change the fuel injection strategy so that the injectors dont inject on all 4 strokes.
