DDM Turbo Upgrade?

Anyone looked at the DDM Works turbo upgrade for the Solstice and Sky? That should work for our cars and be a little easier to get ahold of than a BNR Turbo, correct? Also they priced theirs lower than the BNR.

The turbo itself would probably work but you would have to remember that the routing on all the charge pipes are different on the Solstice and Sky... I'm not sure what the "install kit" is but if it includes cps I would say don't bother. Just remember you will need a BOV for this turbo and that (in my opinion) makes it not a direct bolt on. A bov means you need to maf relocate as well. Also new charge pipes. Basically what I'm trying to say is there are considerable supporting mods that are needed.

Edit: It seems that the install kit is this... straight off their website so maybe it would be worth it if the silicone joints would work with the balt's different agles:

What is the install kit?
The new turbo center section has the water supply towards the center of the engine and the stock water supply line can be used by bending it to fit. The install kit instead comes with a stainless braided line that is a full replacement to make it easier and not require bending of the stock water lines. Also the outlet of the turbo compressor does not line up with aftermarket charge tubes, so in the install kit 2 silicone adapters and a short piece of tubing is included to hook to aftermarket charge tubes.

X2

Plus... look at the pictures section of the turbo description... they use BNR's picture it. It has the compressor comparison between the stock k04, the bnr2860, and the bnr 2871... what is up with that?

Just lookin, man. I have been meaning to check my compression for a while now along with the turbo for shaft play. If compression is down then cobalt will be down for a good while. Built bottom end = ~$1300 with bearings and gaskets + Lash adjusters and springs so another ~$400 on top of the kit. My business is down or the kit would be on order right now. I always get a spike in income around mid summer time. Its been running good tho, just haven't had a chance to put it up against any other balts since the hp tune and boost leak fix. Wouldn't mind being the fastest Bolt in WV, lol!

Alright, cool stuff man. I did a log right when I wrote the tune but it ran like dog crap and lost top end. I then cleaned my MAF sensor when I got home and shes running great now. Unfortunately I was working on my jeep as well at the time I cleaned my MAF sensor so I didn't have time for a test drive, but I thought that was what it was due to the hole I used to have in my inner fender kicking nasty road grime and water onto my filter which prob also made the filter oil get on my sensor. The hole didn't even get real big til after I had just cleaned my K&N filter...sucked, lol.

Edit: Hopefully I can get a good dyno day and see where shes at. Apparently there was a portable dyno down at the local car club's garage that I wasn't told about until after people got dynoed. So much for recruiting eh?

haha...either way its a small ass street turbo...no better than our k04...and the 2871 isn't too much better imo....just doesn't have the capabilities i would like for the $$$$

seems a lot of people are losing patience waiting for zzp to release the efr. lots of k04+ and 2871's going around lately

OP

DDM's upgrade turbo that you are talking about are/is BNR Turbos.

If you find some of the older threads on the Solstice forums, you will see that in fact they talk about DDM turbo's being a BNR turbo.

I would have no problem with dropping the money on another (yes I had one once when I owned my HHR SS) BNR 2871GT upgrade when the time comes if the EFR turbo is either not released or to expensive.

IF you have any questions let me know I'm going to be at their open house tomorrow running a camera for them. They are down here in Piedmont, SC

as for the ZZP EFR i believe Borg Warner has been having issues in other parts of the market with EFR turbo failures and ZZP is probably waiting on them to sort things out before everyone and their mother slaps on one their cobalt... See the class action suit against precision thats about to hit after Tim Lynchs car caught fire a few weeks ago after a 94mm turbo failure...
