Dumb tune questions
Dumb tune questions
Ok i've got a K and N SRI, Catless MPx down pipe, and a muffler delete. I'm thinking about getting a Trifecta tune but my question is how does the process work. I've searched but can't find exactly what im looking for. I know I buy it he sends me the programmer and I upload the tune to my car. If I do this is it definately going to be right or do i have to somehow drive the car with it hooked up so it can read whats going on and then email him something to correct it with? I'm confused as to how the hole process works. I know there is a cable option and I can use a laptop but how does that way work as well. Also if i buy the cable will i be able to flash it back to the factory tune for trips to the dealer. I know it has the hid a tune feature but if i could put the tune in and out it would let me sleep better at night and i can always just swap dps before the trip. Also before getting the tune is their any more bolt ons I need to do such as charge pipes or will the tune be enough thanks.
you have all the mods that you need to have before getting tuned everything else is just extra
you can get the selectable tune file from vince which you can get to activate via the cruise control or traction control which ever you choose.
you can either buy your own cable off someone on the forum or buy it from vince
you simply download the ez-flash software follow the directions and you are done
its fairly simple

So i don't have to log anything back to him and wait for a response to let him adjust. Its just like buying a handheld programmer put it in and its done. And can i completely remove the tune for trips to the dealer and then put it back or once its out its lost or can you even take it out. thanks
Heres how it should go down for best results for you:
1.) Order the tune. You will provide your VIN and list of mods. Go with selectable tune so you can turn the tune off and on by a push of a button (cruise control button or traction control button, your choice)
2.) You receive the tune and software via email. You receive a usb cable and module via UPS or FedEx.
3.) Install the software on your laptop computer.
4.) Plug module and cable into your computer, then get inside your car and plug the module into the OBD-II port under your dashboard.
5.) Follow the on-screen instructions and your tune will be written to your car's PCM in a matter of minutes.
6.) Optional but highly recommended: Keeping everything hooked up to the car, select "Data Log" from the menu instead of selecting "Program Vehicle" (which you have done at step #5). Drive your car a bit, focusing on several wide open throttle runs, say in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gear if you can do so safely on the street. You may want to then let the car idle for a few minutes, and get some normal driving in as well. As you do this driving, the software is capturing various data from your vehicle.
7.) Click "Stop/End Datalog" at which time the information has been recorded and made into a file. You then email Vince with the data log file attached to the email. He will review it and make any necessary adjustments. If he says all is fine, you are done. If he says he tweaked the tune, you follow the first few steps and reload the new tune onto your car the same way you did the first one.
8.) Your new tune is done and confirmed to be dialed in. You have two choices: You mail the cable and module back to Vince, and receive your $200 deposit back. If you choose to keep the cable and module, Vince retains your deposit, but you now have the ability to data log and have Vince check the tune once again if you add or change any parts on your car. It is free for Vince to tweak the tune as many times as you need. He only charges for another tune if you do something drastic, such as install a different turbo, need a E-85 tune, etc. You also have the ability to become a Trifecta dealer if you keep the cable and module. Vince includes information on this in the cable and module packaging.
Edit: An additional benefit of keeping the cable and module is if you ever needed to completely remove the tune from your vehicle and return it to stock, you can do that.
Hope this clears it up, its about as detailed as I can get.

Ok that pretty well summed it up thanks. Two more questions and I'm done. Will the tweaking work the same way since I ordered from Modern Performance and two could I send it back now and if i ended up needing it later just buying the cable then. thanks
Modern Performance is just the dealer. All tuning tweaks/changes have to go through Vince, as he is the only person who can edit his tunes. If you return the cable and module, and need it sent back to you again to data log/update your tune, I believe its around $75 or so.
