Effects of K&N Drop-in filter?

Will I need to retune my 09 SS/TC if I use the K&N drop-in filter? Will it increase the sound of the turbo/intake to the same level as the K&N SRI?

A drop in will not do much aside from skew your fuel trims. Combine it with the ZZP intake tube and the proper tuning and you will see some gains.

Sound? Absolutely not.

FWIW, for those that believe an intake doesn't do anything for this car, you're right. It doesn't without being tuned for. And that person better know whats up if you expect the car to run well for daily driving duties. K&N Intake (lots of extra noise) is the exception here due to filter design but it doesn't mean it's perfect.

FWIW, most intakes will see a noticably nice gain over the stock system starting around 4500 RPM and rather large gains all the way to 6-6500.

I graphed one that used the ZZP intake tube and saw the following:

4.5K - +7whp

5.1K - +8whp

5.5K - +11whp

6K - +16whp

6.1K - +18whp

6.4K - +17whp

6.5K - +19whp

I'd say that's pretty good for just an intake tube

The difference is that you can take out and clean a K&N filter, where with the stock one you need to buy a whole new filter every time it gets dirty.

im assuming i gained power from mine after the tune with the zzp tube, but it sure as hell didnt seem like it, especially with sound, it looks and sounds like stock.

I seem to remember your car having a lot of issues and a slipping clutch... How could you tell if you gained or not? I mean no disrespect either.

Either way, I'll take that bad boy off your hands. $1 bob! Lol

FWIW my previous sedan was running 5.1-5.0 60-100 (not the bs type either) with a very mild E tune and with no other changes except the ZZP intake tube, it dropped down to high 4.8s consistently.
When I say mild, I mean 20lbs of boost, 23° of timing and a smooth boost ramp to remove the spike.

Um No, lets see a dyno before spouting garbage like this.

As far as a drop in filter goes, I've never personally done a before and after dyno on my own cars. I've only tested it out via data logging 60-100 runs. I gained absolutely nothing and watched my fuel trims get whacked. I also remotely tuned a guy from Ohio (MikeyG, you can find his thread in the dyno section) while his car was on the dyno at his school. He swapped between his stock filter and the K&N and picked up next to nothing. He swore up and down that he gained MPG and he switched back to stock and saw that it was just the warm weather.

This has also been confirmed by Term2, Steddy and many others. People that actually verified things be it data logging or on the dyno will tell you, spend your money elsewhere or buy a real intake.

ZZP gained power by not only modifying the snorkle, but by also adding the AEM intake tube with the addition of the K&N drop in. The drop in by itself isn't going to gain jack. If you claim 2-3HP, I'm going to tell you dyno variance. So if you want to use a drop in in conjunction with a modified airbox + ZZP/AEM tube, then you might see something, pertaining to the drop in as you will obviously gain with the modded box/intake tube.

As far as the intake tube goes, here's the thread and graph that Slowstang posted:

Good info.

OP, I had a K&N filter when I first got the car.

Go to Amazon
K&N 69-4518TTK Performance Intake Kit : Amazon.com : Automotive K&N 69-4518TTK Performance Intake Kit : Amazon.com : Automotive

That's the cheapest it gets. There is no comparison in sound. There is no comparison in HP.
Get the real intake.
