won't really gain anything with cams unless you get the fuel lobe cams and run e85 or are on a bigger turbo...that said if you do cams get valve springs/retainers too.

Balance crank, Callie's compstar rods (if they make them for the cobalt?) wiesco pistons and of course rings and seals. That should make a pretty good bottom end.

I wouldn't worry about a netrual balance crank if your not going to be revving the car to high. Just get the one you have balanced and call it a day.

The balance shafts that are in the car now are weighted and spin weights that helps counter act the vibrations of the engine. A netrual balanced shaft is not weighted so they just spin freely doing nothing. You usually get them of your going to be revving the car at high rpms.

Are you going to be revving the car to 8k? Typically people put them in because they want to revv the car really really high. If your not going to rev the car high then I would just get your crank balanced at a shop. All a netrual balance shaft is a "dummy". It does nothing but spin in the block and keep the timing right. Its just a perfectly balanced shaft that has no offset weight like the stock one.

Built head or not, unless you plan on doing a turbo build as well, installing neutral balance shafts is basically pointless if you can't make power past 7000k with the stock turbo.

is it needed to bump your thread after 30 mins? if you dont know the answer to a lot of these things, chances are you should have someone build it for you.

I agree on the bumping thing but you don't have to be a dick about the rest. You have to learn somehow and a forum is the best place to gather Information. So your telling me everything you learned ( granted you know) about engines you were born with the knowledge? Lighten up.

To the op, best thing to do is keep asking questions you have and listen to what people have to say. You don't know if you can or can't do it unless you try. Hands on is the best way to learn

If you plan on ever in the future upgrading turbos, I'd get the neutral balance shafts and valve springs atleast. That way you don't drop valves or rattle your engine apart when you do decide to increase the rev limiter for a larger turbo. It $600 extra for both but well worth it when you get tired of the stock turbo choking for its life.

if you need any suggestions you have my number now

Pistons: wiseco, i would do a .020 overbore to clean everything up
Rods: K1, good rods, cost effective
Bearings: Cvette bearings
Gaskets: all new oem gaskets
Crank: micro polished
ARP Headstuds
get your entire block balanced

as far as the head if you want the cams now you can, i didn't do that to my car now, because i still wasn't sure exactly what i wanted to do as far as turbos. But with the cams YOU HAVE TO get springs and retainers. It's just up to you to plan out how soon after you are done with the motor that you are going to upgrade the turbo.
