Esc Off
Esc Off
I was wondering if there was anyway to turn the ESC completely off so I can get the back of my cobalt to slide around turns just a little bit to help set up for the next turn? Im looking for just a little bit of extra rotation but the ESC kicks in before I can get the car slid enough.

Or try the Competitive Mode if you haven't already. In addition to the launch control feature it also alters the stability control threshold to allow for a little more slip before intervention while still being there if you push it too far.
i have tried that, but going around the turn, the esp kicks in and pulls the car back in line too soon... not much fun, and not the fastest way around the EVOC course at work, since its set up for crown vics and chargers, which are easy to slide the tail in.
Alittle OT, but are you in LE?
In the big handling test Motor Trend did a couple months back they had a break down of lap times and I think one chart showed a comparison between Competitive Mode and and ESC Off and they were pretty close. The stability control on a lot of other cars is so protective it won't allow getting anywhere near the tires limits. It looks like GM tuned the StabiliTrak's Competitive Mode pretty close to the limit of the tires, but if you're intentionally trying to slide the car fairly hard it doesn't surprise me it still intervenes. Most auto-x people will tell you sliding the car is not the fastest way around a track, but it sure can be fun.

The increased yaw rate provided by the comp mode is tuned to TC's specific suspension set up and tires, so it may not work well if you have a well tuned after market suspension set up or even R compound tires.
What I would like to know is if there is a way to tune the ESC (like tuning the ECU with HPtune), to give the driver a selectable yaw rate for different applications. That would be freaking awesome.
"freaking awsome" just doesn't quite cut it for that potential........needs a better word(s)

just to confirm (because I just tried it) hold the comp mode butto for 10 seconds though it seems like if you push it agian it goes to normal mode so I just for comp mode with no esc push twice and hold for 10 seconds the second push.
press the button once=TCS off
press the button twice=COMP MODE
press the botton once OR twice and hold for 10 seconds=ESC off(DON'T LET GO TILL U SEE "ESC OFF" FLASH AT YOU)

im not a freaking bastard! I just ran it on my way to work with the ESC off and ran a better time than my Sargent could get out of his 09 SRT8 Challenger with 6 Spd Manual.
TCSO members only... and this was off the books... lol... however, i am working on getting the department to let me have lights that way if im at home and get called in, i can run code 3. alot safer that way since I live in SA and work in Austin.
we don't get a lot of snow here but a couple of weeks ago we did, on my way home for work, I decided to try out the ECS... about a half a mile from my house on my road, I decided to purposely "slide" in the snow by jerking the wheel, as the nose went toward the ditch, sure enough the ECS system kicked in and practically straightened my car out, I had to do little work, hopefully I will never need it in the rain or snow, but it is pretty kick ass
It is nice in bad weather, but when I want to have fun... I like being able to turn it off. And now I can, and it is oh so amazing. It is like a night and day difference in the car. Went from being just fun to downright AMAZING!
