Exedy Clutch installed

Ok so I dropped Melissa off at a local shop on Monday to get the new Exedy installed, along with a trans fluid flush, and an oil change. There are currently 12,000 miles on the clock and she is running like a champ even though I'm not always the nicest guy to my little girl.

So a quick look at the Exedy Hypersingle. Good clutch... VERY stiff right now and VERY VERY grabby. Hopefully it evens out a bit when it starts to break in. It is really nice though. I was going to be kinda nice to it at the beginning but I saw a fellow cobalt owner on the freeway and had to get on it a little. Other than that I'm going to be breaking it in fairly easy. It is going to take some getting used to. It grabs really quick, I almost stalled it on the first few launches. But all in all it feels good.

I love how it grabs... I'm just afraid to hammer it right away since I want to burnish it in a little first. I am gonna launch it hard a few times tonight to see how it goes. I just put like 40 miles on it on the way to work so hopefully getting on it a smidge won't be too bad.

I will but I just want to do 2 or 3 just to see how it feels. My last clutch is still in perfect condition even though it was slipping under hard acceleration if I wasn't cautious. No glazed spots on the stocker and no heat marks on the flywheel all in all I would say the stocker is a really beastly clutch for what I put it through for about 6,000 miles haha.

Lets see how mine holds up (Spec 3+ Spec fW), 230 miles so far.

I abused it about 8 times yesterday 2-3rd gear WOT pulls, 1 after the other and it held strong.

I only took a chance on it because I got the Spec 3+ clutch and Spec FW for $590/shipped new.

I don't count pulls as abuse lol... for me its the launch... and the way this this feels I'm having to learn the launch all over again... Way more grippy than the stocker and the peddle takes the mighty foot of hercules to depress. LOL I love this new clutch so far. Gonna go beat on it later a little... its good weather today.

Good to know the stocker looked primo!
Just remember..*slip is your friend*. I know you're puttin down mega torque now though, so stocker won't hold it all. I'd be real carefull now in hammering it..all that torque that was slipping is now goin into Mr tranny.

LOL yea for sure... this is my first exedy (I usually go clutchmasters for my old 4 speeds in the past). It is just as hard as those... Man it feels like this thing could take like twice the power I'm putting down no questions asked.

Haha yep... already saving for the ZZP stage 2 trans when they get them done. I am getting some mounts soon too.

Oh and about that stock clutch... man I could not believe it looked as good as it did. I was expecting it to be pretty shredded... But the mechanic put it back in the exedy box and said that it looked brand new and couldn't believe I wanted a new one already... LOL he also commented on the torque steer haha... Asked if I could do anything about it. I just smiled and said nope just gotta reign it in like a bucking bronco.

Don't bother..stage 3 is plenty I had stage 2 on my Camry SC and it worked very well.
Actually IF and WHEN I have to replace the stocker, I'm going to the CM stage 1...yes STAGE 1. It's steel backed ORGANIC and the PP is rated at 70% over stock..that's 440 Ft Lbs to the wheels (assuming stock is 260 Ft lbs to the wheels...GM1). Keep in mind, the more aggressive the clutch, the more you wear the tranny. Far too many people OVER DO IT with the clutch! You want some slip in there. The OP said he will eventually beef up the tranny....are you gonna do that?

The point Ronn is making seeya is that since the clutch is no longer slipping then that torque and force has to go somewhere, if its second gear its going to the wheels because they have the least resistance on street tires. In third/fourth gear its going to the mounts and inside the tranny. Throw some solid mounts a stiff clutch and enough tire to not spin and that tranny isn't going to like that for long.

Upgrading something always stresses something else... I will most likely be getting the stage 2 trans from zzp then upgrading my turbo. Then I'll be saving for axles cuz logically that is what is going to be breaking after all that is done.
