Exhaust?

For the power that I am wanting i do not believe it will warrant a 3" catback as of right now...though I would like to have a bit of sound and to open the exhuast up a bit...how would it sound if Just took the muffler off and put stock size piping from the where the muffler is back? Would it sound like **** or be pretty decent?

Thats what I am probably going to do either that or weld the stock tip back up....I figure since the stock exhuast ia mandrel bent 2.5" and all I'm going to do is a tune to the car and nothing else for sound purposes and maybe quicker spool time? not sure on that one but I figure it may be worth it. Be a lot cheaper than spending a ton of money on an exhaust setup for a noise maker really.

It will still have the resonator and and turbo so i do not see how it will be terribly loud.

I figured it would better than spending a ton of money on a full exhaust such as the Hahn...the stock exhaust is good up to a certain point I am sure...I have heard several solstice's with this done and they sound good...so I figure why not.

I am in agreement with removing the stock muffler and having a mandral bent pipe put in it's place with a nice tip, that's likely wat i'll end up doing with mine right off the bat.

I had a s/c edition before this one...and there was no way I would do that, it would be loud as fock, but I figured with the turbo and resonator on their it should be pretty decent sounding mellow at idle and sound pretty good up top as well...we may give it a shot.

I'd be interested in hearing what it sounds like man. I was just gonna buy a cut-out and put it after the down-pipe (probably gonna replace the stock one sooner or later as well, not sure about that yet), but I may go the route you're going if it sounds good.

Cuout would be a good idea.....though really I love the sound a mellow exhaust nothing to loud ya know? You really would only need a cutout at the track I just want something with a bit more meat of a sound I guess you could say haha. I will probably just hack the muffler off...get some piping weld it up and put a GM tip on it look pretty much stock but sound a little bit meaner.

dont hack the muffler, save for the downpipe and call it day.. Youll get the most power and a more refined exhaust note by removing the cat from the dp anyway.

i have my muffler cut off and just put a dump on it i love the way it souns but im gonna get some 3" pipe and bring it out the back the only reason for the 3" is for a little deeper sound but it sounds awsome as it is not real loud

Ok i have an 08 ss/tc. i cut my muffler off, cut the stock tip off the muffler, got 2.5" exhaust pipe and a 2.5 to 2.5 adapter weld the adapter to the pipe welded the stock tip to the pieces of pipe , made a new hanger and clamped it on where i cut it off. ill have to post some pics. i work ata dealership. i cut the stock muffler off where we cut them off to replace just the muffler and if you cut it right u can order a replacement muffler and have a factory stock exhaust again. the new muffler will come wiht another tip and everythign and it clamps on also so no harm done , just like replacing under warranty only no muffler there lol it doesant make it as loud as u woul think it would. its actually really mellow. im hoping ounce i put the dp on iwht no cats, it will get louder, then i can keep thatfor a while until a larger selection of after market come out , or i make a full mandrell 3", or unitl i work this deal out wiht bushur racign to maake one ofr our cars

The Side exhaust with No muffler sounds bad ass on the SS TC as long as you leave the cat on not too loud for the noise police.
