Flashing CEL after NLS=Fail?

I was wondering if the flashing CEL after a NLS means I had an epic fail. Had it happen a few times stock & also tuned after a few pops with a NLS. Am I over revving or just too damn slow?

I was in Competitive mode, so some ESC is still active. Also have a LSD on it.

This happened to me the other day as well, I laid off the gas for a bit then got on the gas for a bit, tried some NLS's and everything seemed to be fine. Too slow to shift is what I chalk it up to, having it happen too often might start to eff up your engine tho.

Where do I even start..... So many things can trigger an CEL on an obd2 car. --malfunctioning catalytic converter, egr, incorrect idle, evaporative emissions to name a few. Even not properly tightening your gas cap will trigger an obd2 code. None of the above nor a misfire has even a remote chance of hurting your engine in any way.

So I'm confused....the CEL was going off in your car when you were stock....and THEN you decide to do a custom tune?

Please tell me you at least brought this to the dealer for warranty work before you did the tune

Misfire, even SEVERE MISFIRE has no chance of causing engine damage of any kind.

I'm willing to bet this misfire only appears when the car hasn't warmed up yet. Let the car get to 180-190 degrees before you NLS. Problem solved. Don't ask me how I know.

Because nobody else has mentioned it, are u absolutely positive it was a CEL or was it a tranny light flashing?? If it's the tranny light u probably did a NLS while the car was still a little bit too cold, i did this once and that was the result. Coolant temp was up but the car itself hadn't warmed up enough, i might have shifted early too.

I had it happen to me as well. I know exactly what he's talking about. It's the CEL. Mine kept flashing until I shut the car off AND disconnected the ECU for a while.
I'm POSITIVE it's severe misfire. I concentrated on correcting two things and haven't had it since.

1- Make sure you are quick when you do NLS (I don't think this was my problem)

2- Make absolutely sure you are very near redline when you do it. It's got to be close. If your tune raised the redline to 7K even for just a couple gears. Take it to 7K in those gears before you NLS.

If either of those are not dead on... MISFIRE.

EDIT: I researched on misfires some. It seems to me the biggest threat of damage is to exhaust components such as Catalytic Converter and on a turbo engine likely the turbo. (They get overheated from excess fuel igniting in the exhaust)

ok fellas its misfire due to nls while car is not yet above 180* you shouldnt really be boosting at all untill the car is at running temp

Thanks for all the feedback. It's a possibility that it might not been completely warmed up when it happened, but I think it was. I've only seen it occur maybe 3 times in 12,000 miles after a NLS so I prob screwed it up shifting too soon, too slow ect. Last time it happened I know it was late at night and I was pretty tired so I figured I caused it.

What do you think is happening when you NLS? It's a purposely cutting ignation to certain cylinders. Of course it's going to throw a misfire code. If you're getting a misfire code, you're probably taking to long to NLS.
