Too rich of a tune will also wash the cylinders down, which gets in the oil

All LNFs have some fuel in the oil...i notice fuel smell too. Send your oil to blackstone to see if that is actually too much fuel. I'd say the HPFP was bad if you were getting horrible gas mileage and it reaked of gas. but a little smell is normal

A leaking fuel injector is a possibility. You can do a compression check on the cylinders to give you an idea of your piston ring condition.

Yeah, like others have stated, it will be either a HPFP seal that went out, leaking fuel into the head and down into the oil, or a leaky injector that leaks fuel into the cylinder and the fuel makes its way past the piston rings and into the oil pan.

Just wondering but I had my HPFP changed out by the dealership. Is it normal for them to also change out the seal. I really dont know cause I don't know what all's down there.

The only, "seal" that there is that is actually changeable is a gasket that's between the pump and the face of the head. The FSM says to change that when the pump is serviced so I would assume they did. Anything else is likely internal and probably not serviceable.

Standard prcedure is also to change the fuel lines so if you go to the dealer you should see a new set of those installed too.

Hmmm.... I'm about 99.999% sure they didn't do that but they did change my oil.

But after they changed the HPFP my oil still has a fuel smell but not near as bad. So, to the OP, changing it out may solve your issue.

^This

That gasket won't affect fuel leaking into the head or not though. It simply seals up the space between the pump and the head. Therefore, the likelihood of a leaky injector just went up if you're still having the fuel smell after the new HPFP was installed.

On an unrelated yet related note lol, there's a gas tank recall right now for some of our cars that replaces the gas tank seals and fuel pump in the gas tank. I suppose it could be possible that you're smelling that...? Just another thought.

Isn't that the recall that only effects cars sold or registered in hotter states like Texas or Arizona? If so then that wouldn't include me. But if it is a leaking injector how would I be able to test for that to see if that's what it really is?

Correct, but it wouldt hurt to go to the dealer and explain the fuel smell and that you know of the recall. They may still do it.

Mine is at the dealer as we speak getting it done. I've been smelling fuel every morning now for months or after the car has sat at work for hours.

Nah I'm not smelling any gas outside of the car so I think I'm ok with that recall.

Got the old oil? Send a sample to Blackstone Labs, they'll send you a free shipping container. I've got 2 here.

LNF oil always smells of gasoline ( or ethanol). Last test I had done on the LNF at 45k miles showed less than 1/2 of 1% fuel. They say anything under 2% is golden. Oil had 5k on it when sampled.

Maybe my head is just screwing with me (been known to happen often) but I had my pregnant wife sniff it today and she can't smell ANY gas in the oil. I don't about other girls but when she is pregnant she has a nose like a blood hound... Speaking of blood hounds... I ran one over today.

That would be why. Blow by sir. Some combustion and fuel is blown past the rings on any and all engines. I never change my oil at 8,000 miles. 5-6,000 at the most. Its best to change it around 25-35% on the indicator.

5k & dump it. Blackstone told me I could go 7k by the tests, but why push it.
