If your have an 09 (me) SS and want to go catless..go fot it! Ya won't have to smog it until 2016! My personal pref is with CAT (noise), but for those *worrying* about catless...NO WORRY!

I've lived out here in CA all my life...lets just say *for eons*....
and never saw or heard of one of these.
I've driven with straight pipes..catless...high flow cats..the works...
nada ..zip as far as *bending over* at a random *spread your cheeks* search.
Get real.
Maybe the locals out in Irvine and Seal Beach decided to bust some *****?

The tests are just like the ones performed at certified inspection stations. But don't jump out of your seat yet, the random inspections are voluntary and take only 10 minutes. There are no immediate consequences for the drivers. In fact, the inspectors do not tell drivers if they pass or fail the test.
Speculation on the surprise emissions inspections indicate that the California Bureau of Automotive Repairs is simply attempting to gather data to evaluate the states's emission program real-world effectiveness.
Similar testing was conducted in the San Diego, California area back in February of this year.

Vehicles are tested solely for the purpose of gathering data. They do not "pass" or "fail" the roadside emissions tests, so these tests add no additional repair requirements for drivers of high-polluting vehicles. The procedure usually lasts less than 10 minutes.
At the conclusion of each test, the driver receives a Vehicle Inspection Report (VIR) detailing the results. The report may not be substituted for a vehicle's official Smog Check.

Here in VA, they have smog vans setup at entrance ramps. They'll put up a sign that says "Survey Crew Ahead" You'll see a small device pointing the direction that you're going, in an area where you would normally need to accelerate a little.
If you accelerate at a certain rate (test needs car to run under load), they are able to test the car's exhaust, reasonably accurately as it turns out. If it fails, you get a fix-it ticket.

I've never had any problems with emissions here in Texas... I've been catless for the past 5 years, except for the cobalt (soon to bee catless) , and have gotten my state inspections every year. Don't think they give a **** here in Texas..

That sucks, ill stay in Wisconsin!! If your registered up north you don't have emission no matter Make, Model or year. In the big cities anything 95 or Older does not require emissions and any Truck with a GVW of over 8K LBS is exempt no matter what. And all they really do for the 96 and newer is hook up to your OBD2 and just check to make sure all your sensors are functioning properly, basically as long as your not throwing a CEL you'll pass.

I personally have seen 3 and drivin through 1 (avoided the other 2) and HB/SSTC has seen some
so if i check my score card looks like its 2-1 with you taking it up the butt on this one RONN!!!!

You will not be able to get a clean pipe or illegal smog very easy afrter 2013, the state passed AB2289 last mouth, it is going rewite the smog program and smog enforement. They are going to make 2000 and newer cars only get an odb2 test and visual inspection and thats it no tail pipe emission testing. Cars 2000 and older will countine to get the full test with tail pipe emission testing, but only at station with the highest performance rating, and will be managed by the state. My advises is keep you stock parts, look out for random check points, and CHP, dont look too riced out, dont tint your front windows, and good luck.
