GReddy type r, type s, or type rs...
hey, so im thinkin about getting a GReddy BOV of one the types listed
type r, type s, or type rs
i have been watching endless videos and to me, they all sound the same, but her eis what got me settled in on this, i was watching hundreds of supra vids.. the type r i think is the best sounding, especially with a lil bit of flutter... the type s sounds good but it is just a bit odd, and the type rs is just what i cant think about, all the vids i watch of each type, i watch a hundred times over and over trying to decide which one i want... i can make it really simple though, this is the only way i can think of how to put it,,, i want the "supra bov" sound lol... so, TYPE R ???

ya knwo what im talkin about, like, all the supras that have the type r sounds like some kind of chirp/howl/bark lol... its like, choohoooooooohoohoowwwhoooooo lol but i also wonder if they sound like that because they might have an anti surge housing.... cuz with my Hahn BOV it sounds like a type r but its higher pitch, but this guy that has a gt3076r with anti surge housing and hahn bov it friggin howls,,, so, i dont know, i just want my car to sound like this,,, hang on... will post link to the vids i was watching... I WANT A BOV THAT SOUNDS LIKE THIS!

here,, is another vid of why i want a greddy type r.... this one is an exact example of how i want it to sound, a lil bit of a whistle, along with some howling....

also honestly every blow off sounds better coming from a supra. i used to be in love with the ssqv and type s. and i had them both on my car. supra made them sound better somehow.
The Type S is the "Hey I just got done watching the Fast and The Furious and I want that sound" BOV...please avoid that one...I would say of all the Greddy BOVs...the Type RS is the LEAST ricerish...
Type S is my fav.
But you have to remember alot of those Supras use dual BOV's because there pushing 30 plus pounds of boost with big turbos.A highly modded Supra not a good thing to compare with a cobalt even when it comes to BOV sound. I would search for those BOV's on turboed 4 bangers to better compare the sound, such as... srt-4, evo, wrx, etc...

LOL I just don't understand why some people love that sound and why they NEED to let the world know that their car is turbocharged. Because in all honesty...the people that do care (ie other car enthusiasts) more than likely already know it's turbocharged...and the rest of the world just thinks your car is ******* annoying.
If I could..I would eliminate that sound from the world...it's absolutely obnoxious having those damn 1.8t VW guys and SRT4 d-bags rev it up when they roll by me just to make that sound and get my attention...what don't they get about me not giving a damn?

well, yes, i understand that the supras are always running high boost and maybe,, in TT cases they have dual blowoffs but still,,, there is an AMS evo around here, fully built and he has the same sound i want, from what i know its a gt35 setup... sounds like the greddy type r... it has that long,, low chooohooohooooooo sound.... so i know that i can get that sound too lol.. i know, i know, im a ricer for wanting my BOV to sound like a supra.. but yeah, if i get the type r, i am gonna have to get just a regular fitting to replace the T fitting that has my hahn BOV hooked up to it... i want to put the greddy type r somewhat farther away from the direct blast of the turbo... to me,, thats where i think a lot,, of "flutterdump" comes from and why its caused... IMO,, the farther away from the direct blast of the turbo a BOV is,,, the more clean it is going to release,, meaning no,,, or less flutter... think about it, if you're BOV is 4 inches away from your turbo like mine is,,, each lil blade on that bitch is gonna keep forcing more spurts of air towards it and its gonna sound like this,, choochoochoochooochoohooohooohooohoooohhoooooodooo odooodoo and so on all the way until you let the engine stall out lol... see what i mean? the farther away,, the better...
yeah, i have several very old vids of how the hahn bov sounds, these vids were taken when it had the recirc pipe on it, now it is even louder... in the videos at full throttle haulin ass through the gears ya cant really hear it cuz of the wind noise, and me shifting fast lol.. but i have some vids i can post on youtube so you can hear what it sounds like...

yeah.. hey be sure to mention to him that you want the "anti surge housing" with that... i will post those vids up after i get cleaned up, uh, go to my youtube,,, which is in my signature,, there is an old vid in there, that i am showing it and doing a walk around, and when the camera man walks around the back i rev it up and you can hear the hahn bov... that was when it was recirculating though, so just remember that now it is much louder, and with that anti surge housing it gets rid of almost all flutterdump...
i have never actually seen the housing, nor know where it goes lol but from what the guy with the gt3076r ss/tc told me it prevents all the excess from comin back into the turbo... and it sounds great with the hahn bov... there is vids of his cobalt on my youtube, in my favorites, check them out.. its something like gt3076r cobalt outside or somethin...

my greddy is working fine. no leaking issues. no CEL. no nothing. im personally looking for a different sound. rocked it for about 6 months. not sure if i wanna sell my BOV for another BOV or save up for a catless downpipe. downpipe will cost me more b/c i will need to get a muffler and i wanna weld it up on an angle. i want that upwards angle muffler look for my cobalt. no other balt around me has it.
no matter what blow off you get the sound will start to lose it "coolness" to you eventually. my budddy got a one on his 350z that flutters like crazy i had a hardon for a mile. but i road around with him for a few weeks and it was just kinda like. ehh. it blew off who cares. haha go for the downpipe.
In order to understand how an 'anti-surge' compressor housing works (which is technically a 'ported shroud'), you need understand what surge is, in the first place.
Surge: The 'Surge Line' is the leftmost boundary of a compressor map. This is where flow instability occurs - This is where the compressor wheel is spinning at a high enough speed to force more air than the engine can "ingest". On initial thought, one might think this would just give you more pressure in the intake - and this is true, as long as you are on the compressor map. Basically, the surge line is the MINIMUM airflow needed to keep the pressure from backing up, and causing reverse flow pressure waves - these are INCREDIBLY damaging to the turbocharger!
Follow that thought a little further - when are you constantly seeing high flow of air, but little entering the intake? That's right, when you get off the throttle from boosting. This surging is what a BOV protects the turbo from. You also see this, if you have attempt to spin a compressor wheel such that it is forcing more air into the intake than the engine can take - or attempting to get more boost per rpm of the compressor wheel, than it is designed for.
That said, the ported shroud allows the surge line to be moved further left - this is because the compressor housing allows some of the air that starts to get backed up in the intake, to flow back out the housing. Didn't write this but you get the idea . . .
Here's a pic from Garrett:
