Has anyone actually observed knock on RPD?
I started a thread over on HP Tuners forum, but wanted to get input from non-tuned folks too. Have ANY of you ever seen knock retard on your RPD's?
Today I did a stock scan w/HP Tuners and had a little knock. Upped the boost and richened it up a bit and saw 3* of retard. I never saw the RPD register any knock (like it always does). I asked my wife to eyeball it while on the pull too and said she saw nothing. In the past I've ran 87 octane in a pinch and NEVER saw retard on the RPD. Once I even had audible knock on crappy gas and nothing displayed. I've posted in a couple octane related threads basing my experience of never seeing knock retard on my RPD.
Curious if that things working at all!
Otherwise it seemed quite accurate, including exhaust/intake cam phase.
I'll laugh if this thing is brox, and then start raising hell with GM

Everyone with the RPD around here that I've talked to running 91 octane (or above, but has been confirmed with 91) is showing 0 knock at all times on the stock tune as best as they can tell (though you can't watch it 24/7 ). I've considered trying to pull knock numbers from my 08 (since I don't have the RPD) but the units are damned expensive for an "experiment" imo .

I think tonight I'm going to FORCE my car to knock via tuning, and once again have my wife in the car with me to make sure I'm not crazy. Either it flashes by so fast I can't see it, or .... ? Wonder which PID the RPD is monitoring for knock.
Really wish the RPD had a peak & hold feature on all of the guages. Starting to think I should sell this thing to someone who wants it and put one of the aftermarket scanners in its place.

I agree.
RPD could've been a lot more than it is, and who knows maybe someone will hack it. Looking back I would've tried to find a Cobalt without one and done my own thing.
OH WELL, I have it so I'm dealing with it. I sent Bill a link to this thread in PM, and hoping this is something he could bench test or weigh in on more.

1-3* is also what I was seeing last night on my bone stock car (not even a filter change) w/91 octane. I wanted to do a bunch of pulls stock before doing any tuning just to see what was goin' on.
All of those knock events correlated with tip-in, so that was pretty easy to tune out.... but it was there. Here is a screenshot of my cleanest stock log that was knocking. Nothing new to other HPT owners, but...

I've never seen knock on my RPD. Even with 87 octane this past winter. Granted, when it heated up and later when I got tuned I was always running 93, but I've still never seen any knock registered.
Maybe Vince can "enhance" the RPD's functionality a little bit.

If anyone here claims that they have heard knocking...they are lying...unless they did something SERIOUSLY wrong when tuning...
You might be able to detect some slight knocking from the factory, but GM would never put cars out there with warranties that have audible knocking from the factory...

ROFLMAO to GM putting a car out there that "won't audibly knock" Put **** gas in my wifes Yaris, and you'll hear it knock too (10.x:1 motor). I posted it up on HPT forum too, but long story short I was in Colorado and filled up with either 84/85 in Denver metro. Got out of the thin air back in Nebraska and had audible when I rodded on it (forgetting the **** gas was in there). Went away when I pulled into a BP and put 91 back in.
ANYWAY,
I shittuned the car on purpose and pulled 5* knock from 4000-6400rpm almost solid. RPD stayed at 0.
I'm so confused on a couple people saying they HAVE seen knock, and some saying they never have. Totally believe you guys who are saying you've seen knock, just curious wtf is going on.

I hear knock / ping (exact same sound you hear out of an old engine climbing a hill) under part throttle / ~5 psi boost. Full throttle it's either gone or drowned out by the engine noise, but I don't hear it.
This is 100% stock. Car did not always make the sound - it has come on over the last several months. Will probably take the car in week after next as I have some time off. We'll see what the dealer says.
