How does the K04 wastegate/boost controller work?

There seems to be a lot going on here.

1. Internal Wastegate
2. Boost Supply Line
3. Boost Supply Line
4. By Pass Valve

I'll have to look at my turbo again but one is for the for the bypass (probably 3) and the other runs to the solenoid on the intake manifold, which goes to the cold side charge pipe. If you're installing an aftermarket turbo all you need is:
1. Wastegate at diaphragm
2. To cold side charge pipe
3. Open

can i buy a vowel? "A"!!!

Anyone?

I know there are some smart LNF guys around here.

1, pressure inlet for the wastegate diaphram
2,3 are the boost feeds for the electronic boost controller solenoid
4 vacuum line for the BPV
you planning on installing it on an LSJ? if so I've already done it and can help out a bit.

northvibe 08-26-2010 02:32 PM

Ya isnt 4 the BPV?

Well I would never go straight turbo but a local guy was talking about doing it to his LSJ. So I thought I would do some digging around.

Did you use the boost controller on the K04 or did you use your own? I am going to search for your threads.

Bypass Valve

right now i'm using a manual boost controller, plans are to hook up this boost controller to the stock SC boost bypass harness if i can figure everything out. looks promising so far, just need an EV1 connector.

Gotcha. So it connects some where on the IM?

So the connection on the K04 boost controller uses a EV1 connection? So then you just need to find out how the PCM communicates to the boost controller. My guess is that it would be based of some sort of linear voltage signal.

You don't have a build thread started for this turbo setup do you? Cause I couldn't find anything.

yes hooks up just like a BOV

i do have one, just not on here(mavens place-"did some work today"). and yes i believe it is linear voltage much like the LSJ bypass valve solenoid. there's even some nifty controls like steady state, prop speed and gain available in HPT. hopefully i can make it work just like a normal electronic boost controller.

SSlobalt 08-26-2010 02:51 PM

So, that's our K04? Damn, that thing is LITTLE.

northvibe 08-26-2010 02:54 PM

I can take pics when I'm off work in a few hours

packs a decent punch for being as small as it is, 36lb/min max is nothing to sneeze at, works even better on my slightly higher compression motor.

But it's so cute. :cssNET:

Makes sense.

But you wont be able to control the K04 boost controller through the LSJ PCM unless you can adapt it to the SC by-pass valve signal right?

Did you have to replace the coolant cross over pipe on the LSJ or where you able to clock it to allow enough clearance for the turbo?

thats the plan is to use the SC bypass signal when i swap pigtail connectors to the EV1

yes you must get the LNF coolant cross over tube, no way around it, its not even the turbo that won't clear it, its the manifold itself that hits. the LNF manifold is significantly bigger than the saab one.

I see.
