How the hell did I lose to a stock Caliber SRT-4?

With my list of mods on my list, this just doesn't make any sense, and I feel embarrassed losing to a stock Caliber SRT-4 in a roll 40 3 times, which pisses me off. We were doing a roll 40 off the highway with a group of SRT-4 Neons blocking off traffic behind us during our race. I was in 2nd gear in competitive mode ready to do a NLS. The Caliber honks the horn 3 times and we take off. I NLS successfully shifting at @6000 RPMS and pushing 22psi. When I get about a car ahead at 90MPH, I see the damn SRT-4 Caliber pulling ahead of me slowly and I lost like a car ahead of me and stopped at 120mph. I shook my head and felt embarrassed for the money I spent with these damn mods and wanted to shoot myself in the foot. 2nd time appeared the same result. The last one I took 10 mph ahead by accident and still lost. WTF? Guy told me he drove just fine and he was spinning tires in 2nd to 3rd in the caliber and still managed to beat me. What do you guys believe what is wrong with this picture?

Spinning through 2nd and 3rd in a stock SRT-4 Caliber? Are you sure it was stock?

Maybe the Caliber was tuned and passed it off as stock...if it was stock then it makes the GM STG 1 not look as good as you would expect...

They run a low to mid 14 stock, so either it wasn't stock or you have tuning issues. You should kill it especially with Stage 1

Maybe your intake is slowing you down.

My guess is that he had a good tune,

someone mention he was pushing 19psi and hasn't done anything to the car. I looked under his hood after the race and it looked completely stocked.

All I know it makes no sense and I was pushing my car as hard as I can and keep seeing it passing me between 90-100mph. I had a good head start in 2nd to 3rd. My dyno was at 271hp on January because my car was dealing with air loads because of the cold weather before I did the CP and CAI. I'm about to ripped both off and go back to stock and get something from ZZP. It could have been the tune been flashed wrong, but that wouldn't make any sense. If my car is pushing 20-22psi on a good warm day, then I should have capped him and been over with, but nope.

i think its your car, with a tune, your charge pipes and intake you should have more than 270 especially if you have gms1

He was probably on mopar stage 1, or some other kind of tune. The stock boost level is around 10 psi. They also have a bigger stock turbo than ours, so the power don't drop off like ours at higher rpm.

yeah he probably doesn't know, but his psi was the first thing that made no sense to me for a stock SRT-4 Caliber, because I remembered my old stock 03 SRT-4 pushing only 10psi. plus he had 30day tag on it. someone came up to me from the G5 saying I would have a hard time facing him because his psi is at 19psi. I laughed and said, "please...." I was thinking about all the youtube videos seeing Caliber SRT-4's getting owned by Cobalt turbo/supercharged.

My guess is that he either had Mopar Stage 1 or did some tuning with the AEM F/IC. Those things have insane top ends..especially 4th gear

I could actually agreed with that, because I was in 4th gear getting passed. It also could have been my stock exhaust being an issue because of the two catted stock dp not pushing all the pressure out in time for the turbo to spool faster. If I had to sell one item to get a catless DP, it would be my Hahn CAI because I don't think it helped out any. The Injen CP helped out a lot with my boost response before I gotten my Hahn. If I gotten a ZZP Catless before..., I bet I wouldn't have lost that race not one time.

he probably did, but this whole thing pisses me off in the first place because of all the money I spent and expect to get good results out of the deal. The Injen wasn't a waste, I had to disagree with that guy who drove the blue SRT-4 who is in the high 12's. He thinks he knows it all about what the Cobalt SS/TC's are capable of compare to the SRT-4's. Thinks the Injen CP makes no difference and the CAI would make a huge difference over the CP.

Your problem is probably the stock dp that you have.

Also if you look under our hoods and see nothing it doesnt mean were stock, we could have the gms1 and you wouldnt know it

I'm sure he had the mopar stage 1 with a catless dp or something

Go get it tuned by sombody on here or a shop around you, throw that gms1 out the window lol haha any protune is gonna be better then something you

buy from GM

dude I bet he has lots of mod's, OR like stated by jonathan he had nitrous. Kind of makes sense you would beat him then he come passing you by.. at any rate, not stock what so ever.

I gotten 271 on a cold day without the CP and Intake. I had the KN drop, TWM, and GMS1 done that day. My car was being hesitant to go pass 15psi and spin the tires as a result (learn down feature playing that role). On a warmer day and wouldn't do that. Yeah I think he had the Mopar Stage 1, because I'm sure it was the fuel injectors swapped out and the ecu being flashed.

It could have been a lot of stuff but just go get it protuned somewhere and then go back and re-race him and walk his ass

need to have blueberry to tune my intake so the MAF will read it correctly to get the most horse out of it. Need the DP first so that it doesn't bogged my turbo not spitting out fast enough out of the exhaust.

The problem was that the Caliber wasn't stock...I've seen stage sc's pull stock caliber srt-4s...and in stock form I've pulled stage sc's...They are a relatively close matchup when compared in stock form...but that SRT I can assure you was not stock.

I will say this, a buddy of mine has an STi, front mount, tuned, intake, turbo back exhaust. He raced a Stage 1 CSRT4 and won...until 120MPH it pulled him. They have freakish top end

I was going to race the other Caliber SRT4, but the guy chicken out saying that he didn't want to go out in the highway because it was too far distance, until the guys in the SRT-4 Neons said they have another Caliber that would run me. I just wanted to embarrassed that guy next to his girlfriend because she looked hot.
