installing hids

Ok so i want to get l/h hids, and i read there is a problem with the whole daytime running lights. i dont want to disable the drl, cause u have to have em in canada, even though im sure id never get pulled over for it, anyway, how do i make it so the hid low beam is used as my drl? hid needs full power which doesnt happen with drl. who has installed them and what do i do?

you dont need them cause not all cars have them if you had your hid low beams on all the time all day youd prob burn them out so fast...

My car never turns the drl's in the day time and i always thought it would make my bulbs go out cus sometimes they would flicker, so i started turning my fog lights on in the daytime. I've been doing this for a while now and my fog lights still work fine(my fog lights are hid's). I'm pretty sure they'll be fine cus they're still bright as fu** and they don't flicker or take a long time to brighten up like they do just before they go out. Its been about a year.

if i turn on my fog lights my defi gauges dim. cant do that. i just want something to turn off the drl, or something that will give them full power instead of pulsing voltage. i might try the capasitor thing guys are doing that they say works. if anyone has an easier salution, please let me know. if there is a module or something out there to fix it.

Since you're in Canada, it may not be as easy to disable the DRLs. IIRC, there is a redundancy built in the Canadian bound cars. You could try pulling the DRL fuse and see if it kills it.

If not, just get a relay harness. It'll solve the infamous flickering issue that occurs with reduced voltage DRL systems.

I havent heard of this on Cobalts. I know of atleast one guy with a Cobalt that ran HID's and therfore pulled the DRL Fuse with no problems.

why do I feel like we are the HID police. Telling everyone how to do it properly, yet still being bashed for our expertise.

I know more about HID's than 98% of this forum

WantedSS/TC I am totaly with you, although I did not construct my hids or the relay myself, I have enough knowledge to do so just not the time. I agree that the relay is a nessessity when it comes to HID, the relay harness system draws power from a 12 volt source such as the red terminal on the fuse box. This means that you will not strain the current oem harness cause it will only be used for the power signal and the operating lights. you will always have full power to the headlights even if the drls are on, I pulled my drl fuse because I live in US and we are not required to have them and I want to save my bulbs. The relays also give a more stable and consistant voltage as well.

DO it right or not at all is my closing statement.
